Government Is Considering Further Reducing Duty On Hybrid Cars

Nothing can be said for certain in the upcoming budget as of now, but the sources of journalists within the government keep on feeding them with tid bits of unconfirmed information which in turn spawns incorrect information like 80 percent duty cut. However, such sources have also revealed to The News that the government may be considering to further reduce duties on hybrid vehicles to support low fuel consumption and maintain the environment in Pakistan.

If you’d know, there’s already a 50 percent discount on Hybrid vehicles from 1300cc to 1500cc but the government is of the view that further reduction would inspire importers to bring more hybrid cars to Pakistan, in turn helping the burden of oil bill, softening CNG crisis, and also the environment.

As we said, there’s nothing for certain as of now, but sources say that the proposal is being worked on and Finance Minister may announce further reduction of up to 10 percent on Hybrid cars whereas, all other duty on vehicles will remain as is.

This can be the moment to cash on in and try to develop a small hybrid car around the Atkinson cycle which the majority of hybrid cars use. Hatchback – Atkinson cycle – 800-1000cc plus the batteries would result in good amount of power, and there you go, a perfect city car for Pakistanis.

Of course, it isn’t as easy as it seem but why not?

We should develop a hybrid locally. Perhaps we have all the potential, just need to take out some time and a group of devoted peers could do this in a very short time. I would love to be a part of that group if some other people are willing.
