Oh Wow! Strange somebody kicked this up
I caught myself thinking earlier today that driving in Northen Pakistan is not short of a rally..... I recalled Greg Mortenson's remark in his book "Three Cups of Tea" that whenever someone asks him if he is scared of dying in a terrorist attack during one of his Pakistan trips, he tells them that if he ever dies in Pakistan its more likely to be in a road accident rather than terrorism. I then realised that this trip was probably tougher than many a rallies...
This trip involved some wild *** crazy driving! Some of it was at high speeds and other times at terribly high speeds for where we were and for the beating our cars were getting. At times it was on roads/tracks which none of us was familiar with and in conditions which usually were far from ideal. Driver fatigue on the trip was another factor that can only be experienced or imagined but not explained in words.... It probably looks quite sanitized with the comfort of hindsight and all the glam photography but in all honesty it was pure madness and one big adrenaline rush.... in my books comparable to the Baja 1000 if not 5/6 days of Dakar!
Damn, why am I talking about it after a year has passed?.... probably because I finally am able to say something on it I remind myself to find time this Ramazan to say extra thanks to Allah almighty for keeping us all safe during that trip! Last Ramazan I think I was too busy with Flood relief stuff to do so!
And BTW: Hats off, salut and thanks to all the IJC members on the trip! Your all certified nut cases on most scales
