    Salam, I have Mitsubishi Pajero Intercooler 1996 model with original V6 3000cc petrol engine. Performance is very good and its way better than diesel.

    Not sure if its relevant to this topic or not but recently i have observed that the v6 engine in the latest generation of pajero is sluggish, seems to be lacking power and produces rather unimpressive noise when floored. 3 of my colleagues have these in UAE and observed the same thing in each of them. Could be wrong though.

    @rescue

    3000 V6....urban 5km/L highway 7-8km/L depending if you have an auto or a manual tranny....with the auto O/D makes the differnce as it cruises at 120 km with only 3200 revs( note...6G72 redlines at 6000) on the counter and you get the best milage cause the engine is working quite effortlessly!

    Regarding the......
    1. Noise....well the noise of 6 Vs pumping is a treat....believe me you even can throw your stereo out!
    2. Grunt....it pulls fine especially if it is a DOHC making well over 170 horses easily whereas the with the SOHC you are sadly stuck with 150 and the torque being lesser than even the 4M40 TD. But happily kicks butt on the same TD and even 1 KZs if persistanly gunned in the high revs!

    Has my vote, anyday!

    @rescue

    It is only MUSIC that it makes....not noise!
    And if even SOHC/DOHC looks like mumbo jumbo to you, then if I may frankly suggest, stay stock with your original 4D56....trust me, you'll be much happier!

    Nahin bataatain.

    Mitsu has already told you what you asked, and frankly I cannot understand what else you need to know. Its a great engine, revs nicely, good power if you get the DOHC version (Dual Overhead Cam Shaft), zyaada bhaag tee hain ye engine SOHC waali say. Ok?

    Haha.....like that Mitsu Evil thing......good one amigos!

    @rescue

    @RKR has put it across it grossly simplified.....maybe it ain't your cup of tea! Gen 1 (your car) came only in SOHC but putting in a DOHC is a possible option especially if you can get one off a gen 4 pajero which will easily churn out around 190 horses and would hurl you at speeds where wetting pants might be an issue for some. But given your apparent little experience on motors, stay basic on your TD!

    petrol engine, 6g72 costs around 150,000 rupees in shuba, peshawar. cheapest alternative is a rebore of your 4D56 but personally i prefer changing engines, rather than boring them out again. a 4D56 engine minus the tranny will cost around 50 thousand. trade in ur seized engine for around 10 or so.
    regarding performance, please explain. performance is a relative term. when compared to the 6G74, the performance of the 6G72 isnt good. compared to the 4D56, the performance of the 6G72 is good! it wont be phenomenal though. i mean, ur regular corollas and civics are still quicker than a petrol pajero.
    if u use ur pajero for regular daily driving and a bit of offroading, stick to the diesel. its much cheaper.
