Wonderfully informative thread. Respect, on that score.
As a slight divergence from the build thread (and possibly to kick-start it, again!), someone mentioned the word "punga" some posts back. Well, I'm almost ashamed to admit it, but I've been having this recurring nightmare, of mating a stock '84 FJ40 I6 petrol engine (and body) to a Unimog tranny, axles, and wheels. Added to this nonsense, is the idea of a "body lift" rather than a "suspension lift", and some butchery with the fenders, so as to keep the centre of gravity (since most of the kerb weight consists of the frame) nice and low, whilst allowing for the additional ride height and wheel-arch space that those enormous wheels would inevitably entail.
Which brings me to the $64,000 question: Is this even do-able?
Would appreciate the valuable input from any and all of you eminently-capable wizards.
Cheers.
Fouad.
