Salaam o alaikum fellow pakwheelers,
Firstly, I am a newbie, so your patience with any of my technical inaccuracies would be much appreciated. This is my first post and I apologise for not having filled in the introductions section, Inshallah will do so soon.
I have read with much interest the posts in the 4x4 /offroaders forum over the past year. Alhamdolillah, a thriving scene.
I am interested in your views regarding a new punga type project...
The 1kd- ftv is a superb crd engine, early ones did have injector problems. Injector failure is a reason oft cited due to poor diesel quality. In other countries inc.UK, the injectors failed in early engines, excess sulphur is not a problem in the diesel there. The common rail was redesigned by Toyota, as the early failures were due to a design fault.
Most of the Thai imported Vigo's have 3.0 d4d engines, the failure of these could be down to uncertain history, servicing and mileage in imported vehicles.
Japanese surfs from 2004 onwards have used 1kd engine, there is a low failure rate in imported vehicles, perhaps being due to grading system used by Japanese auctioneers and higher grade cars of 4 or above being imported. No one would pay 40 lakh plus for a grade 3.5 car.
Toyota prado and its many variants throughout the world also use this engine.
Suffice it to say, its a common engine.
To say that crd is not viable in Pakistan, would go against many of the 2kd Vigo's 2.4 sold in Pakistan by Indus. Very few failures if serviced correctly. Albeit the 2.4 d4d is a detuned version with appreciably less than the 140 bhp which a modified intercooler and turbo can produce in Thai and UK versions.
The cost of fuel is rising everywhere, and mpg comes into this.. it will rise further in the next few years. I am foremost an Audi fanatic and have had modified S3 and S6's with Quattro(4x4) for past 10 years, prior to relocation to Pakistan. I am a diesel convert by necessity, not choice. 1uz and 2 uz requires deep pockets, and yet the torque of a 1kd when modded to 250+bhp will surely trounce them off-road. The success of some of these hilux/ Vigo variants at last few jhal magsi rallies should be evidence. Obviously if you are a millionaire with a Toyota tundra, then so be it..lol
The Americans are wanting diesels, one only has to go through posts on ih8mud, or pirate4x4. Some have attempted, even if only in theory to swap 1kd ftv into older toyos. The problem in USA, is lack of 1kd ftv engines...google 1kd ftv and you will see. This engine has great potential. Adding some redex or kerosene to a diesel tank easily eliminates likelihood of injector failure.
The main issue in inserting a 1kd ftv is the ecu loom. The complicated electronics have scared people off.
I am looking at the feasibility at this point of putting one of these engines into either an early 1990's surf, or 60 series, maybe even a 70 series
We haechanics in Pakistan, but this is where I need your help..the highly esteemed specialists to bash their heads together and come up with viability, feasibility and cost punga..
Whether a H155, or H150 transmission could be mated to this engine?
Can complicated electronics of ecu be overcome to achieve this?
I'm sure if a 2uz can be put into a 40 cruiser such as recent Concordia build then this is also feasible. I would like the esteemed Kiani brothers input and their highly capable mechanics the Awan brothers, as Pindi is my nearest location. Brother Fouad Hafeez as resident phantom punga expert... Team Unimog, as per their motto. Lol.
Xulfiqar, who inevitably has his name running through most threads in other sections of pakwheels...lol.
In essence this would be the beginning of a new punga Inshallah...
Let the fun commence. I look forward to the replies in earnest.
In all sincerity,
Your brother,
Assad.
Wasalaam.
