I had a yamaha rx that I used. infact I used it so much that was my workhorse. Its front stanchions were busted when I got the bike and would not hold the 5W30 engine oil that was required in the forks (I changed it out every year), after inquiring for new parts I found a set costing me Rs 5500/- but they were old and had some marks on them too - old ones were costing Rs 2000/- but not upto my standards.
I had them rechromed at Eastern Studio compound in Karachi, they refinish industrial parts. It cost me Rs 5000/- but the job was amazing - I then used gaiters on the rods and had a perfect working front. e.g. if you rode by my side you could see the forks move at high pace to smooth out the road but the bike would stay level - just like a brand new bike would - oil change every year and the forks were always spot on.
It also had to do with using proper genuine NEW made in Japan Yamaha shocks for the rear.
The chroming that the idiot and moron chrome walay ustaad places do is a waste of money, they dont bother with copper coating or any other treatment. That is why it only lasts a few weeks. Good chrome places like the one I used also flash chromed parts but the cost was usually as much as a new part. It was only worthy it you had a very rare exhaust, bar, plate etc. btw - the factory stanchion rods on your bikes are also flash chromed, hard chrome buildup is a very expensive process but the result is really good.
btw the prices Im talking about are early 2000s
