Alhumdulillah.
Got meself a new bike: a 2011 model GS 150.
I saw the ad on PakWheels, and after some back-and-forth with the fine gentleman, I bought the bike for 70,000 rupees (is that a fair price? Don't tell me if it is not abb tau khareed lya hai bhai jee) ...
I had a basic idea of what I wanted: I wanted a bike to go from point a to point b. And also a bike that can afford me a tour once in a while.
It seems there is a group of GS 150's here in Lahore, and I have already met one of the members: Zahoor sb, who own a bike repair shop as well!!
Anyways, here are the pictures as the Bike currently stands:
I hate the red color.
But here are the "modifications" that I have planned for this bike. Reason for modifications: To make the bike as comfortable as possible on city-wide and longer rides. I do plan to show this baby the entire length of KKH in Pakistan. InshAllah. Also, I am big about the mobile lifestyle as far as work is concerned: so I will definitely want some charging for devices (the phone at least).
There are about six things that I have listed that need work BEFORE any mods. Here they are:
Possibly replace the battery. Electric Starter sometimes - but just sometimes - take two or three presses to start the bike. The battery is still the original one, so get that checked. As I will need to install some electric load to this, the battery needs to perform a bit more than normally required.
The "gararee-set" at the rear tire has been judged to be breathing its last. This is as per the mechanic (Zahoor sb). I, as always, have no idea what I'm doing.
The rear-brake needs an overhaul.
The front shocks need work: the bike rides at a tilt. My first concern was that the chassis is bent. The seller was honest enough to tell me that he did hit the bike, and the front light is already a bit skewed. So I guess the front shocks also took a hit. They are not as soft as they should be. So:
4(a) front shocks need repairing themselves.
4(b) either the shocks need alignment, or the whole chassis. I am assured that both can easily be done by an experienced denter. As per my friends with bikes, this is not a big problem to solve. Happiness. Alhumdulillah.
The disc breaks need work: the breaks are worse than drum breaks at the moment. But the brakes are not leaking from anywhere, and is deemed fixable within "reasonable" cost. Allah khair karay.
Oil change. Zahoor sb was adamant that I should replace the fuel "even if I changed the oil fuel and filter (this bike has an oil filter!!) one day ago!!". I then received a lecture on how the 150 engine is one of the most stable engines in the market IF one makes sure the oil and the carbeurator are working smooth. "Honda would sell the same bike for at least 250,000," I was told. Zahoor sb is, interestingly enough, associated as an electrician with Honda motorcycles (yet owns a gs 150 cc). I like him.
I use the bike almost daily... and want to now get it ready for a "weekend trip" to them mountains perhaps. InshAllah.
Special Note: Part of the reason I bought this bike is because of the awesome community comments here at PakWheels. Also, the inspiring mods done by the likes of @12gauge give me the confidence that this is a bike that one can "make his own". Allah khair karay
