Hey Folks, This is my first ever post on PW and I am looking forward to get some help from you guys. I am in the market for a "Honda Civic VTI" or "Toyota Corolla SE Saloon". Here are my basic requirements:
Make: Civic VTI or Corolla SE Saloon Model: 2003 or later Color: Any Color Mileage: Under 40,000 km. Transmission: Either Manual or Automatic Condition: Immaculate (No Touching / Re-paints) Registration: Islamabad (preferably) or Rawalpindi Target Price: Rs. 850,000 (without CNG) or Rs. 900,000 (with CNG) - Cash Payment I am checking out these cars in Rawalpindi / Islamabad market for almost one month now and my target price is based on all my legwork and my observations... and I do believe it is very realistic and reasonable target price (as I have seen both VTI and SE Saloon selling in same price range). I would highly appreciate if any of you could help me spot a car that matches the above requirements. I mean if any of your friend has a similar car who is interested in selling his / her vehicle or if you know about a similar car parked at any auto dealer's place, please do let me know. I am in Islamabad and can be contacted at (0300) 5284865. Look forward to a favorable response from you members. |

Thanks for your suggestion, and trust me I am browsing the Sunday newspaper very relegiously for sometime now but I usually don't see too many SE Saloon listed in the paper..... put it this way, in Islamabad edition of "THE NEWS" of yesterday (Sunday, 28-May-06), there was just one ad for Toyota SE Saloon and even that guy was not picking up his cellphone so I couldn't get a hold of him either.... I know there are few SE Saloon parked at dealers places but as we all know that most of the dealers have jacked up the vehicle prices little too much plus the commission factor, hence I would prefer to buy it from an Individual.... but only if I could find some sellers first....

Is is better to buy from the seller as there won't be 101 problems there. I advice you not to buy the desired car from Islamabad/Rawalpindi cuz of the un-natural price factor. Do check at Lahore and other cities.

i AM REALLY SORRY TO SAY THAT YOU WONT FIND A 2003 AND UPPER MODELS IN iSLAMABD EVEN IN EXI LET ALONE IN VTI FOR THE AMOUNT YOU HAVE QUOTED. CHECK TH EMARKET YOURSELF. IF YOU WANT A REAL NICE FAMILY CAR THE PRICE RANGE HAS TO GO WAY UP IN ODER TO GET THE VTI. YOU MAY GET LUCCKY AND BUY A CNG 2003 EXI PROSMATIC FOR 945000rs. IF INTERESTED LET ME KNOW I CAN HOOK YOU UP WITH VERY CLEAN AGED MAN'S DRIVEN EXI PROSMATIC ON CNG FOR 945000RS. I MEAN IMMACULATE CONDITION SCRATCH LESS CAR WITH NOT A SINGLE SCRATCH FIRST OWNER, NAVAL OFFICER. OR WAIT TILL THE END OF THE BUDGET, IN MY OPINION THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A REDUCTION IN THE DUTY OR THE PRICE. BUT I CNA BE WRONG LETS SIMPLY WAIT OUT THE MONTH OF JUNE AND WE WILL FIND OUT. IN MY OPINION DO NOT DO NOT BUY A CORROLLA .

The main reason I want to buy the vehicle from Islamabad/Rawalpindi is because of Local Registration. As you mentioned, I might be able to find good deals in Lahore or suburbs but most likely those cars will be registered either in Lahore or other cities from Punjab.... and they have lower resale value. I mean the resale value of these cars with outstation registration is atleast 50k to 80k less in Islamabad, specially on these bigger cars like Corolla or Civic (not that much price difference in small cars like Mehran or Alto etc). Thatwhy I would like to find a car here locally with local registration so I don't loose more money at the time of resale. |

@RashidYounus
Dear Rashid bhai, Thank you for your advise, I appreciate it.... However I still think my prices are very realistic, as they are based on some completed deals in near past... Lets talk about SE Saloon's first (my preferred car... even thou we all know it has some brake relevent issues but I am still kinda interested in this car).... here are some cars that sold in last one month in Rawalpindi / Islamabad: * SE Saloon, 2003, White, Automatic, 51000 km, IDM Number, Little Touching, Sold for 850,000/- (about 3 weeks ago) * SE Saloon, 2003, Rose Metalic, Automatic, CNG, 36000 km, IDS Number, No Touching, Sold for 885,000/- (about 4 weeks ago) * SE Saloon, 2004, Silver, Manual, CNG, 25000 km, ICT Number, No Touching, Sold for 930,000/- (about 3 weeks ago) Regarding VTI, yeah I might be little unfair here but then again I have seen couple of good deals on EXI in last month or so thatswhy I mentioned little lower target price for VTI. Here are those deals: * EXI, 2004, Stone Silver, Prosmatec, Petrol, 36000 km, ICT Number, No Touching, Sold for 830,000/- (on 14-May-06) * EXI, 2004, White, Prosmatec, CNG, 41000 km, ICT Number, Touching on rear fender, Sold for 910,000/- (sold yesterday) * VTI Oriel UG, 2003, Cyprus Blue, Prosmatec, Petrol, 79000 km, ICT Number, Sold for 880,000/- (on 14-May-06) So I am also trying to find me a good deal like these.... |

You are correct! buying a car from out of Islamabad is like commiting a soicide, the market of Islamabad registered cars is not unnaturally high, let me quote you a few examples quickly: The roads are extremely clean, almost every one is highly educated, Usually all are government employees, dont allow youngsters to drive very often of the fear of strict law and legal awareness, laws are adhered to more in Islamabad then in any other part.
Above all a car to many of us is not a disposible item, it is a durable item and has to last at least 10 years without trouble. for it to be a worthwhile purchase, I would personaly buy it from an educated person. many folks are not familliar with the complex components of a car. These fears make Islamabad registered cars a far better option. I mean folks are not crazy to pay 100,000RS extra on a honda civic driven in islamabad compared to Karachi after all. lastly Islamabad number cars sell fairly quickly. Good luck on your decision, if I were you I would pay a small amount extra and save the hasstle of repairs afterwards

I will carefully look into the information sourses, I mean I beg to disagree. But then again the prices currently are very low of the fear of the budget. I think it is the time to buy a car, but the supply has been halted momentarily. You cannot find an Exi in the whole market. Very few Islamabadians sell their cars
This is another reason of their high price. Any how like I said right now is the time to purchase. At the same time it is really difficult for an ordinary man to tell if a car is painted or dented. One more reason why the price of Islamabad car is high, 99% cars are very clean with no touchups Good Luck, If interested in th eProsmatic "As good as brand new" do call.

Yeah I think you are right, some other friends have given me the same advise aswell (to wait for the budget). But then again there are also friends who advised against it.... claiming there is a possibility that Govt. of Pakistan either close the import of vehicles or might impose some additional duty on import of vehicles, and if that happens then the prices of the local cars will go up again (as they have recently come down only because of excessive import of vehicles). But I think I should take a chance and wait until after budget, hoping that the Govt. will not increase any duties or close the import and prices will further come down!!! |

@emenent
Just wondering... how much did the CNG conversion cost you??? I am asking as I have heard that the CNG kit prices have gone down aswell.... (like the conversion used to cost arround 60K, now it costs about 40K... is that right???) Secondly, are you planing to sell your GLI??? If yes, what's your demand??? |
