Shouldnt be a big problem. Accelerator cables do become dry after some time. Replaced mine 04 iIDS's as well
Although the tension offered by throttle body wont reduce, however you'll feel comfortable operating the throttle with a new cable. It comes pre greesed inside.
Let me cut you in on an incident, cables gone bad can lead to false diagnosis. For example, back in 2010, I was about go for a complete clutch/pressure plate replacement when a simple clutch cable change made wonders. The car (Cultus) used to work fine on a cold engine. After about 1hr of drive with AC, the clutch re-engagement used to be jerky.
3 Mechanics -> Pressure Plate New FTW
1 Good chap -> Let us throw in a Rs:600 worth of cable and see what happens.
And the cable solved the problem
