Hi guys, I have a 97 model Automatic Honda Civic EXI 290k done and the engine is weak now.I got three options after i visited the market in rawalpindi.
Please Suggest me for which engine i should go for. Thanks in advance
Anyone please help?
Same model's CVT Complete engine with transmission, ECU,wiring, power pump, compressor, generator, foundations etc for 65k (Mechanic,Electrician, Gear and engine oil expense excluded )
Make sure you find a guy who can wire the setup for you if your going for a CVT. You are better off finding the cluster and shifter too that came in CVT variants.
i have searched and found the cluster and shifter to be exactly sameMy main concern is which engine to go for?
yes and the other one will cost me around 50 with labor charges etc plus my car's generator, self starter are causing issues too
No they are not. The shifter has a sprint and ecomony switch and so is the indication light in its own cluster. Brother its better to do some research before jumping to this CVT setup. And for a genuine swap you will need under dash wiring as well. You have a domestic base model car and this CVT setup is not as simple as you think it sounds. The engine is no doubt a very good option if wired properly, i've used 3 of these myself previously but the CVT needs a TCM/ECM and without that you'll be just enjoying half the fun and economy - that too if the 3 stage vtec is working
ohh okay got it, i don't think the place i am checking this engine he will have cluster and shifter but i will ask him about this though he is promising me the genuine uncut wiring and ECM but i need to check about cluster and shifter. Thanks alot for your reply Appreciate alot bro
Alright brothers, as mentioned by @badpigs i checked about cvt cluster and shifter but didnt got any, so i went for complete EXI engine for 43K here is the condition of engine by going through the conventional way of checking the engine.
can Any one please tell me what this thing states? what my mechanic and the shop owner says is that the engine is very less used but this thing here states 100913 km's i have checked it through a translator app and it states kilometers TRAVELED now the engine condition doesn't looks like a engine with that much mileage where as this timing belt cover is showing something else?
Can anyone please help me out i am really confused.
It says that timing belt was changed on that date at that specific mileage. This helps you to know when to change belt again. This engine is definitely used over specified mileage

I knew it but my mechanic he is a trustworthy guy and he says to go for it as the inner condition of engine is clean. What mechanics and engine dealers are classifying the engines are into 3 states
This is what they say and go for a engine's condition, now i am very confused on what to do.
I am posting the pictures of other engines i found in the market and these are definitely not an option according to the mechanics and engine shop owners as they are high mileage engines.
v
Picture of my civic....197k driven...
this is not the best way to check the enginethey wash and clean the engines with petrol probably for users like you who take off tappet cover and choose engines
the guy i took along to check the engine rotated the flywheel and heard for compression sound closely
now whats done is donethe only thing u can do now is test compression with a compression gauge
The engine is yet not finalized i can return it back to him, from where i can get a compression gauge? and can it be performed on the engine in this state?
Man this is 20-30k driven according to kabar wala's theory I dont know what to do i am really confused now.
well, Now i am sure the engine's real mileage is now more then 100k, so what i should do now? how i am gonna check any engine for low mileage? is there any other procedure? i am sure no one is going to let me do the compression test.
see post 1 of this threadthis is how he checked the engine and when i swapped and took compression it turned out to be perfect
