Default Mehran CNG Vs imported 650CC Car consumption

    Hi all,

I hope this is the correct section i have chosen for my post. I am buying a new Mahran (lease) and intend to convert it to CNG for saving money. Now there are many imported cars (Japanese) of 650CC or 700CC cars in lahore. They are mostly automatic and their price(used car) is almost the same as Mehran. Their fuel consumption i have been told is exceptional as good as 25Km per liter. One example is Nissan Otti.

My office distance from home is 16km one way. Keeping in view the CNG price raise and 3 day non-availability, people are asking me not to buy Mehran and go for the above mentioned Japanese used refurbished cars. My preference is a car which do not take me to workshop for at least next few years. But only thing i am worried about is resale factor.

    What do you suggest?

    Regards,
    Muhammad Khabbab

I would prefer a JDM kachra over Pakistani Corolla.. A friend bought Xli for 16 lacs (with CNG).. 16 lakhs!! NO Power Windows, Manual gears, No ABS brakes, NO AIRBAGS!

Mehran is even worse.. people calling it a teen ka dabba are correct! it would never be allowed on the streets in a developed country. Besides, compare a 2001 ki mehraan with a 2001 ki vitz... Zameen aasmaan ka farq in quality, rusting, safety, drive, comfort etc etc

So I would suggest, go for a JDM.. yes, resale is a problem but people are converting now.. Look at Vitz... Now you see it more than mehrans in Karachi atleast.. Passo is the new upcoming car here. Japs know how to make solid cars, no doubt!

Now the real question, since I havent personally driven 660cc cars, can't comment on their mileage, but even automatic ones are giving more mileage than mehrans (maybe because of less power?) as per owners I have met.

Baki best of luck with whatever you choose. Also see the Hypermiling thread for tips on increasing any car's mileage

^if you want to talk about power then most the 660ccs have more powerful engines than local alto and mehran and coure as well. but in case of mehran the onset of power will be greater due to carby engine whereas in case of EFI cars the emissions are controlled therefore lean mixture of air and fuel is allowed in. plus many the weight of 660s might be greater than that of mehran.

I can proudly say now as I own one that a 660cc JDM is way better than Cuore and Alto and obviously a lot better than MEHRAN....! Go for JDM.

[B]i know so many 660 lovers will come to this thread who even never own a 660 Cc but will come here to misguide people..

let me share my story mate .i biought a new mehran with denso ac and cng a year ago, than car was awesome drive was cool, low cost, than i came to know from some missguiders at pak wheels who are actually dealers, that 660 cars are so much feul efficient cars and they consumption is similar to mehran,

no this is not correct,i have now new 660 MIRA and suzuki wagon, and stella, none of these cars are doing more than 10 km per litre,i have done with tuningmevery thing,it cant gives me milleage of more than 10 km in per litre...

hope this will help u so plz do not go for 660 ccs though they are v much confortable but in pakistan economy is every thing,,

Theres no match between a JDM and PKDM. I mean besides the war, its funny to compare a historical worthless car being sold at a price in which one can get alot more rather than not even standard options. But for the sake of price the 2 vehicles say Mehran and a JDM Mira, Alto, Mitsubishi EK or Suzuki Kei can be compared.
But i tell u, all these cars by "FAR" exceed even our local Cultus by power, mileage, performance and the package has a HUGE difference. Infact the quality is a million times better than the best Pak Suzuki offers now (Liana) and can offer in next 50 years.

And abt reliability, a 100,000km driven JDM vehicle from Japan is still 100,000 times better than the vehicle u will get in Pakistan for that price. They r auctioned with true specs and they dont have any issue. And definitely any wise man would test drive and get a vehicle checked before buying. And yes parts of JDMs r easily available. And parts cost? When u get a really good quality car with really good quality parts, they dont come cheap. Still affordable and u wont need them tht often as the Mehran does.

Decision is urs. I would highly second aqibbasit. If someone gets offended, they may. Truth does not change and is sweet for some and bitter for others. Abt fuel, well u can waste ur investment on a CNG kit because these winters u will have CNG maybe 2-3 days a week and will have to wait in ques of 1 hour or more. The difference is 2-3Rs per km which is worth considering the comfort, power and the whole lot of package.

AC is good and trouble free while Mehran has heating issues no matter what.
    Interior, seats and what not!

I would also discourage anyone from buying Mehran. Iv owned one too and now i own a Mira AVY. No match!
Pak Suzuki is selling u crap because u have not stopped buying it even now with these options available.
    PS: Im allergic to shullbit.

Actually majority of us are middle class / lower middle class. We cannot afford gambling by buying an imported car. As we need to keep our investment safe. Thats why we are ready to buy that old dalda dabba cars like mehran and cuore.

Brand new Car is the best solution provided by the specialist. When you start driving there are number of things which make hurdels and destroy your peace so i would rather suggest to have new branded.

i dont know whats the issue with 660cc cars but the mileage of 1000cc cars like vitz and passo is very good even with auto transmission. dont know what the hell is wrong with 660cc cars may be they are underpowered so they guzzle more fuel.

I dont know why some people are saying that 660cc cars are not fuel efficient. Me and my two more friends had suzuki cervo and one friend had dahiatsu sonica turbo charged and we are getting an average of atleast 16 , 17 per km locally which i think is a very good average

mehran is made of material similar to dalda tin. hes not really lying.. why dont you grow some and accept the fact mehran is a safety hazard for family. hes just warning the guy.. if he loves his family he should think not just about saving some cash but also about their lives.

^^very very true. if in accident mehran crushes like a bee. these Japanese cars are crash safe. they have ABS and airbag plus crash resistant body so you may not end up like a sausage in case of an accident.
