Aslam-o-Alakium,
I need your suggestion guys! i would like to get engine oil change in my Cultus VXL 2006. Which Engine oil these days is good in market ? Besides should i get CNG taged engine oil, or the normal one, as few suggest me to get normal one because the car engine was made for patrol not CNG? Could you guys please suggest? One more thing i would like to know; what are the signs one should feel, besides after 5000 KM runing, when the car needs to get oil changed? |

use caltx or castrol only. try to stay away from shell total etc.
i use castrol gtx in my cultus and drain it after 2500kms. you can use it. its a good oil. if u want to change oil after long durations then use Castrol Magnatec. its an awesome oil. lasts well and performs good. |

papu bhai sahi keh rahe hein . . . ye cng oil etc sub baqvaas hoti hai . . . the function of a lubricating oil is to lubricate the moving engine parts . . . it does not matter which fuel causes the engine parts to move . . . .

Basically u need to keep few things in mind for an engine oil. In Pakistan stick to a company which has good reputation and provides quality oil. Then there are 3 types of oil, Standard Oil, Semi Senthetic Oil and Full Senthetic Oil. The main difference is types of additives used in these oil. Generally Standard Oil r advised to be changes at 5000km, Semi Synthetic at 7000km and Fully Senthetic at 10,000km. Full syth r ideal for brand new cars, semi synt good for used cars with good engine condition which does not consume oil. Remember u engine sounds really smooth when u use fully senthetic.
Another difference is in the cold start up. A standard oil luricates engine in 45 seconds, semi syth in 15 secs and fully sent in 4 secs, hence synthetic oil provides better protection as max damage to the engine is done at the start up. I have been using a fully syth oil and Im a great fan of it, not sure if it will work equally well with an old engine. I returned to Pak after 10 yrs and not very familiar with the brands here and u guys have educated me by ur inputs. I used Mobile 1 which was good but the best was fully synth by TOTAL and no oil could match its performance. Im not sure if TOTAL has the same quality here but I guess foreign brands r better and its worth spending that extra bit towards ur car. U should import Slick 50 from UK, its an amazing treatment for an engine and I used it in my Margalla long time back (when genuine Slick 50 was avail) and the engine went very quiet and smooth. Dont buy it from Pakistan as genuine Slick 50 r not availble here and people who used it were pretty dissapointed as their cars started to consume oil and they had to get the engine flushed to get rid of the problem as it created loads to carbon in the engine. Any useful suggestion, plz feel free to comment |

@Maserati
Very nice info brother! I believe then i should get Fully Synthetic (if my pocket allow me ) otherwise definitely i'll prefer Semi Synthetic... I was wondering if some one have info; in which category "caltex havoline formula" fall, Fully Synthetic or Semi Synthetic... ? |

Hi Sohail
U r most welcome anytime. As far as cost is concerned, I guess it should cost the same coz u change Fully Synth at 10,000km compared to 5,000km and u use 1 filter till 10,000. If u treat the engine with Slick 50, it works really well till 50,000km and u can extend it to 80,000km and if u use even a standard oil, still ur engine is very well protected as Slick 50 quotes ur engine moving parts with Teflon layer (basically a plastic layer) a similar slick is also used in Space Shuttle and ur engine can take all sorts of abuse. If ur car is not consuming oil, then sythetic oil should b fine. Also note that when u shift to a new oil, plz get the engine flushed because the addiditves of the old oil of a different brand damages the performance of the new engine oil of a different brand and some oil is left in the engine when u change oil. If u r using the same oil, then its not required. Normally I see cars which has done only 1 lakh kms and it requires over hauling. I covered 250,000 kms with my Margalla (treated with slick 50 and using standard oil) and the engine was still running very strong when I sold it. |
