if you are planning to undergo maintainance from Toyota, do as they say or you'll confuse everything. Toyota's petrol oil timing IS 5000km. other brands' depends on their claims for example Shell fellows say blue box - 10000 km, yellow - 5000 km, red - 3000km and so is the case with other companies. i use Caltex Havline but change at 3000km because of an old engine.

Shah jee, in order to keep the car living long you should change the oil and the filter at around 4000 kms depending on the condition of oil, driving style load etc etc. Once you have clocked 4000 on the oil, check the dip stick for, color of the oil (should not be black) and its viscosity, it should feel like butter on your finger tips.

Stick to one brand of oil.

First oil should be changed at 1000km as faheem boy has mentioned.
and then it should be changed on 3000 or 5000 max..

^ you can change your oil before 5k km for your own satisfaction but only a phd in lubrication can exactly tell you whether u need to change oil before 5k km or not. the ones who say that you shud say that engines wear a lot in the initial 5k km. but is it true for all the cars when different manufacturers use differet levels of surface finish and tolerances in the machining for the moving parts in an engine. n also the engines get tested at the manufacturing sites and their different parameters are monitored before cars are sent to the market. n the material that gets wear off from the moving components have to wear out anyway over the lifetime of the engine. then why isnt it better to change the oil after 5k km and let the parts of the engines get machined quickly to the desired level. the material thats gets wear off and suspends in the oil doesnt change its lubricating properties a lot - there are other factors that make the oil unusable such as the oxidation of the oil. etc etc. and oil contaminants, if larger than some limit get filtered out by the oil filter. n oil filters are designed in such a way that they last longer than it takes for the oil to become unusable. so folks there are tolerances and safe limits in every engineered product. you can use the products wid the peace of mind within the limits specified by the manufacturers. if you cannot visualize all these things then your common sense would tell you only the basics - that the engine wears off initially and u shud change the oil.
so i recommend that you shud inspect the oil after 3500 km or so. if there isnt any major change in the thinckness and colour then change it after 5k km.

For Corolla, the first 1,000 check up free. They will do a general check up and will not change the oil. When I took my car for first 1,000 they said no need to change oil as it was good for 5,000K. As far as the wear and tear is concerned, for what the filter is? Any tiny metal piece coming out of break-in would be collected by the oil filter.

then change the oil &stick to some good brand like MOBIL1.
there r various oils, some need to be changed @ 2000km & good synthetics last upto 12,000km.
its upto u.

Autophile, i remember when nanaji's Cultus came brand new in 2002 and we went for the 'First Free Inspection' they changed a bolt from the bottom of the car and oil of the gear. loads of sludge had gathered there.

@
shahsahab

i think u r not satisfied. the 1000 km oil change is very gud for ur new car. as one of da members said that they took heir cultus for first free inspection and the oil was changed(both transmission and engine oil) there was a lot or sludge material cuming out...

so according 2 the routine maintanence, the oil is changed after every 5000 km as suggested by toyota motor corporation japan. i m a toyota technician in TOYOTA SOUTHERN MOTORS. and I hav also worked in suzuki dealership i-e CARACHI MOTORS.

u just do one thing that if u dont want to get ur car maintained from the dealership, then go to dealership and purchase the TM0 2000 TOYOTA GENIUNE MOTOR OIL and the Geniune oil filer. then u can get the oil changed from anywhere.....

always remember that the geniune parts are always safe for a long hassle free drive.....

Regards

Danish
