I dont know but it sure sounds logical. Airbags sitting compressed for years with heat and cold, high and low pressures, I think they should at least be inspected every couple years. And those who are saying there is no expiration date, know that practically everything has an exipry date - sooner or later. Unless your banking on the fact that by the time an airbag system gets messed up, either its been deployed or the cars a clunker

Rizwan seth: http://www.fiatforum.com/stilo/13673...xpiration.html There are various google finds which say that they do not and the Car forums, Fiat, Audi, etc users say that the expiration date is written on the side-pillar!!

Toofan, that link is from a forum; a discussion forum. Read the last post on that thread, about an 18 years old Chevy.
Post a link from an actual automaker recommending that the airbags in their vehicles should be changed after certain pre-specified period.

^YES!
![]() More money for the mechanics; they get to take your fully working airbag and then sell it to someone else thinking that they should replace their air bags. Perfect scam. Keep the cycle going, and the mechanic doesn't have to buy new airbag, ever.

humanGenius, there is a reason why automakers spend 100s of millions of dollars or even over a billion in some cases to develop new models. They don't spend it on lipstick.
![]() Every part is tested under every possible stress condition; especially safety equipment. These are designed to at least stay in perfect working condition for the life of the car; whatever that might be. Once that predetermined time, considered the life of an auto, has elapsed, everything expires in that car. ![]() And then that car shows up in Pakistan as hardly used, and sold as such.

If you do, hire Toofan as your parts installer. He will swipe a few additional parts as expired, for latter sale, of course.

A few other examples of expired things in your car:
[Mechanic]: Sir, the air in your tires has expired. [Toofan]: Wow, I didn’t know that. How much to replace? [Mechanic]: It’s usually PKR30/Lb but since you are getting your expired airbags replaced, I will give you new air for free. My treat. [Toofan]: are there any other parts expired? [Mechanic]: I am sure all the nuts and bolts are going to expire soon too. Should I start replacing those? [Toofan]: Sure. You are the best mechanic. I am going to tell everyone at this forum I visit all the time, the PakWheels.com, about you. They will all come and get their expired parts replaced by you.
