catback is a type of exhaust system that does not eliminate the catalytic converter. its basically three or four pieces bolted together starting from your downpipe, resonator and then the muffler.
all new cars now come with a cat back exhaust sytem.

storm...you are technically right....and i just realized that catbacks and axle backs are the same systems.
technically...the kind of system i was refering to is a basically a header back...but since a header back eliminates the cat with a test pipe (illegal for us here) so it is usually referred as cat back.

it's basiclly just a replacement muffler. it is built to bolt right onto the manifold just after the catalytic converter and that's why it's called a cat-back unit. They improve airflow whilst maintaining noise suppresion, which gives you more power (very little if any) and a sportier sound (some make your car sounds like it is farting).
the one in the picture i posted earlier is a remus item (part# 508 597 0542) and it'll st you back around 350 pounds in the UK (not too sure as to how much it'd cost to import). They come with a life time international warranty and you'll not find them in pakistan.

What is a cat-back exhaust system?
A Cat-back exhaust system is an aftermarket replacement for all the components of your car's factory exhaust system beyond the catalytic converter. This includes piping, resonator, muffler, exhaust tip, and mounting hardware. Cat-back exhaust systems are application-specific because the entire system is designed to mount cleanly under your vehicle and work in harmony with your engine to produce maximum power and the best sound possible. Cat-back refers to the portion of the exhaust system from the outlet of the catalytic converter to the final vent to open air. This generally includes the pipe from the converter to the muffler, the muffler itself, and the final length of pipe to open air. Cat-back exhaust systems are a very popular aftermarket performance enhancement. They generally use larger diameter pipe than the stock system. Good systems will have mandrel-bent turns that allow the exhaust gas to exit with as little back pressure as possible. The mufflers included in these kits are often glasspacks, again to reduce back pressure. If the system is engineered more for show than functionality, it may be tuned to enhance the lower sounds that are lacking from high-RPM low-displacement engines.

good question levin...infact...i have been saving money for about a couple of years now for all these toys..haha
an engine swap is very tempting....at most i wish to go for a JDM B16 2nd gen. motor...but not too sure right now. This swap plus the labor to install it is around $3000 and in less than that much money...i can go turbo. Now...i have a 3 year old that sits with me in teh car so i cant really get everything i want u know...plus my wife is already after me to sell the civic..lol..she thinks im not a 20 yr old anymore..haha The Ws2 is a great catback...not like those **** cans you see on civics everywhere...its really melow and not loud. Check this clip... http://videos.streetfire.net/search/...665654cedb.htm
