    Default Geely Panda

While looking at the Geely Pakistan website www.geely.com.pk which is back online, shows the range of 4 vehicles.. CK, MK, FC & Panda.. while there are threads related to CK & MK (also called as Geely KingKong ) at Pakwheels & i dont like the Geely FC at all since its a pathetic Premio wanabe, the Panda can be something for our market.. Price starts from 4000$ only which is an extremely low price tag but i wonder how the dollar rate will affect its price tag here.. Though i don't envy the design which is said to be inspired from a Giant Panda, the name says that too. But the features and price makes it too catchy.. its equipped with 1.0L CVVT developed in China, 1.3L & an Electric version is also available, i believe only the 1.0 one will be coming here, if its really gonna come. It rivals Chery QQ in its home town in China and if the price is set well, then despite its weird looks it might attract buyers because of the package. The Geely delaership this time should market & advertise their products in a batter way in order to sell them in a handsome number. hope that we see a healthy competition in our market.. Have a look at the panda!

    Default Geely selling Panda’s Online

    from tycho,

    Geely Panda -171338

Geely set up a flagship store on the populair e-commerce website Taobao. Taobao is eBay and Amazon together, its 300 million registred users can buy basically everything, brandnew and secondhand, from simple pencils to computers and now cars. Second-hand cars were already available trough Taobao but it is for the first time that a manufacturer sets up its own shop.

First up is the Geely-GLEagle Panda but more cars will follow if sales are good. Prices are exactly the same as prices at the dealer. Geely thinks buyers will feel more comfortable if they can spec the car up at home, instead of going to find a dealer in a windy suburb. Customers can buy directly but can also make an appointment with for a test-drive. After-sales and service will remain with local dealers.

    from CCT,

    Geely Panda -171339

Taobao.com was Ebay’s death knell in China, they could just not compete with local knowledge and failed to understand the local buyers and sellers in China. Ebay was a foreigner in China, Taobao was the plucky under dog that took on a multinational and won, Geely was/is the world’s biggest automotive underdog, but somehow they rose to the top and took over Volvo from Ford, now Geely and Taobao have struck a pack in their respective hometown of Hangzhou to sell cars online.

    From China Daily:

China’s leading private-run carmaker, Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, began selling cars online Monday to tap into the purchasing power of the nation’s hundreds of millions of netizens.

Geely, which took over Volvo Car Corp. this year, said in a statement that it has opened a flagship store on Taobao Mall, a major e-commerce website.

Geely added that it now sells Gleagle Panda-branded cars and planned to add more, including models specially designed for online customers and auto interior products, to its online store at a later date.

Additionally, traditional dealers will offer test-driving and after-sales services to online customers, it said.

“The Internet, if well used, would bring a rather big surprise to Chinese automakers,” said Liu Jinliang, vice president of Geely.

Online shopping is becoming increasingly popular in China. The country had 420 million netizens as of June, while Taobao has 300 million registered users.

^ straight conversion is around 400 thousand, whereas i cannot say anything what will be the price if launched here as it depends on so many factors, also i dont think 4 airbags & abs will be offered in this car if its priced below the Alto..

sorry if i missed your question, its still unclear how many Chinese manufacturers will be entering our market, its still a news only!

^ 4000$ is 340000 rs. so the base model with straight conversion comes at this price.
So by your post i can understand that they are coming but its not clear how many but they are definitely coming right?

Can the panda be priced around 5 here? Or that is just wishful thinking?

I hope that the local mafia gets a shocker and we get some choices

^ as per straight conversion a Chery QQ use to fall somewhere around 3 lac but it was priced at 4.60 lac (basic) and 4.89 lac (comfort) when launched.. so if Panda is 3.4 lac as per straight conversion, a basic version can still fall under 5 lac, but im quite sure they will never offer airbags & abs in this price

    @Usman
Yes the basic version will most probably not have these options but it is still a good buy if priced under 5 lacs considering the price of other 1000cc cars in Pakistan. I do not know how much more time will be taken by these chinese companies to enter the Pakistani market with full force, maybe you have some idea?

Default Geely Gleagle Begins to Sell White and Blue Pandas Online

Geely launched a shop on Taobao.com today for the Gleagle Panda (Geely LC) supermini, putting on sale a special edition colored in white and blue. The virtual outlet, at http://gleagle.tmall.com, is described by Geely as "China’s first auto flagship store on the internet," although it is really no different from the online showrooms commonly run by other automakers. It is just another place where consumers can research and customize a car, place an order, specify a payment method.

Geely Panda - geely panda store

Last year, Geely’s PR Chief, Yang, Xueliang, said the online store to come would be more than a supplement to actual dealerships–it would enable a car buyer to bypass the latter to a large extent; for example, a car bought from Geely’s online shops could be delivered directly to the buyer’s home (see our post). That sounded and proves fanciful, and the buyer still has to go to a dealer’s lot to pick up his or her order.

Geely Panda - geely panda store 1

Geely Panda - geely panda store 2

The white and blue Panda is available in two versions: a 1.3L 5MT selling for 59,800 Yuan and a 1.5L 4AT for 69,800 Yuan. Both come with backup radar, ABS+EBD, DVD+GPS, and six airbags.

Default Review of Geely Panda by Wheels24 of South Africa

    Geely Panda - d47a3c18187b4cbeb2411317b706e248

CHINESE CITY GOLF?: Designed to look like a sheetmetal Panda face, allegedly, Geely’s LC is one of the better compact cars to come out of China…

Geely’s newest local offering is its LC compact hatchback, which would have been called the Panda locally if not for Fiat’s objection. The Panda naming was not a pure marketing tactic either. LC's keyfob set, front styling and even rear lights feature tractable design elements of China’s most famous mammal, or so Geely would like to have you believe.

Dimensionally LC is 3.59m bumper-to-bumper, 1.63 across and 1.46m from tarmac to roofline. Collate those numbers and you are looking at a compact hatchback Suzuki Alto/Citroen C1/Toyota Aygo in size.

Geely is marketing three LC models locally, distinguished by ascending badges in GS, GL and GT order. The entry-level GS features power-assisted steering and windows, air-conditioning, central locking, an auxiliary-input enabled radio and brakes boosted by ABS and EBD. Next up, the GL adds MP3/USB/CD functionality to its sound-system, dual front airbags for safety and has alloy rims for enhanced style.

The range-topping GT adds a park-distance control warning buzzer and side/curtain airbags in additional to the GL’s specification.

Overall, the LC’s design aesthetic is unique, with its oversized ovoid lights and uncharacteristically low front grille, both features allegedly proportioned to trace the features of a Panda’s face. LC’s glass-to-sheet metal ratio is quite low for a hatchback, with the consequence of it having a myriad of blind-spots for a small city car – hardly ideal when called upon to navigate hectic urban traffic. Overall though, the design is not at copy-and-paste as we’ve come to expect from Chinese brands.

Geely Panda - dacc57a2383d4498b2bc15fe30455ce2 GOOD, NOT GREAT: The cabin could do with comfier seats and most definitely without the maddening 120km/h speed warning buzzer, which cannot be disabled. There’s a fire-extinguisher under the driver’s seat…

The LC’s cabin architecture and ergonomics are quite, well, different to the usual Asian (Japanese/Korean) and European city car fare.

The plastics are hardly premium (considering its sub-R100 000 pricing, one can hardly expect more) and the odd bits of fake carbon-fibre trimming the door handles and fascia are an ode to eccentric automotive design perhaps a decade out of fashion, but it’s hardly an environment to repel potentials drivers or passengers.

Interior fit and finish are OK but, like Korean cars of little more than a decade ago, Geely still has to master how to balance the chemical reactive properties of its polymers to sunlight. Plainly, the LC hatchback does have a faint chemical aroma when left standing in direct sunlight for an afternoon. It's not as overwhelming as with some other Chinese vehicles, but there remain traces of plastic pungency.

Geely's local representatives were at pains to showcase the robustness of the new compact hatchback and as such we embarked upon a meandering ride-'n-drive evaluation route looping outbound from Knysna through the logging dirt roads towards Uniondale, before rejoining the N2 back towards the Garden Route’s signature town.

    DRIVEABLE, LOVEABLE, AUTOMOTIVE PANDA?

Powered by a Toyota-benchmarked (and yes, read that as an euphemism) 1.3-litre four-cylinder engine producing 63kW and 110Nm, the Geely LC goes about its business with a keenness that belies its output figures.

On the tarmac sections of the evaluation drive I was impressed by the relativity low levels of wind and mechanical noise (road/tyre noise is quite perceptible though) and, with a conventional Macpherson independently suspended strut set-up front and torsion beam at the rear (balanced by coil-springs at all four wheel corners), the LC is predictable and stable.

As we stopped for a regroup on the Uniondale-bound dirt road section I noticed, interestingly, that Geely’s LC has rather peculiarly sized wheels: when last did you see 14-inch alloys on a road car?

The R399 between Knysna and Uniondale is a legendary linkage of gravel passes, well known to mountain bikers competing in the Karoo-to-Coast each year. As a driving road, especially post-rain, it can be indelicately surfaced thanks to erosion. After an hour of dirt road driving – including a few sump-scraping encounters with rocks exposed by the recent rains – the Geely LC GT was still in fine shape. No rattles. No disquieting thumps from suspension components.

It felt like a solid compact hatchback, with cheap touches no less, but entirely dependable.

Are there issues? Well, you sit on (instead of supported in) the seats, which are not really shaped in manner befitting long-distance travel. The steering wheel does not adjust high enough for drivers taller than 1.8m, whilst the side mirror doesn’t sway far enough to the right on the driver’s side either, yielding a rather limited field of view of the typical rear-three quarter blindspot.

The GL and GT models have a flip-cover slot for their infotainment systems that has such a deeply receded input port, one would have to tie a sting to the end of any USB device you wish to retrieve once it has been manoeuvred into position…

Dynamically it’s hardly perfect (the five-speed transmission has a terribly tall third gear, ill-suited for overtaking) but Geely’s LC is not a bad little car – which is something you would not have heard me saying about practically any Chinese compact hatchback offering more than a year ago.

If you seek affordable and robust tertiary education transport for your children (buoyed by the presence of protection items such as airbags and ABS), the three-car strong LC range is well worth considering, especially when specced-up with either the two-year/60 000km (R4150) or three-year/90 000km service plan options.

Default Geely LC (Panda) crossover set to hit Nepali roads

Geely Panda - geely cl cross nepal 1 458x295

Saakha and Universal Automobiles, the exclusive distributor of Geely Vehicles for Nepal, will soon be launching the Geely LC crossover vehicles in Nepali market. The vehicle is expected to be in the market in December. Geely LC Cross is the crossover version of its Geely Panda mini car.

“Customers prefer the cute look of Panda and we are certain that they will like the trendy design of its crossover as well,” said Prabal Saakha, the managing director of automobile division of Saakha Group, the parent company of Saakha and Universal Automobiles.

“Geely LC Cross does have the looks of a more rugged off-roader and it is an impressive vehicle in terms of build quality. The super minis have scored big for Geely as proof of its strengthened designing capacity.”

The crossover is styled like a mini SUV. The two versions – mini car and the crossover – have the same wheelbase of 2340mm, while crossover is a bit longer and higher than the hatchback.

Geely Panda - geely cl cross nepal 2 458x305

“Geely is ranked number 33 among the world´s car manufacturers in terms of production with 216,774 units in year 2007. In 2010, just three years later, Geely´s production almost quadrupled to 802,319 and its ranking climbed to 20th,” said Saakha, explaining that the quality and image of Chinese cars have improved drastically over the years and they no longer need to fight for their existence in the market. Geely also purchased the world renowned brand Volvo in 2010.

LC Cross has different features like raised suspension, all-black interior, power steering, power window, air conditioner and central lock. The car received five-star rating in safety from China N-CAP and is the highest scorer of C-NCAP by a domestic brand in Chinese crash test history. “We are planning to sell about 100 units of this car in a year,” said Saakha.
The company is planning to introduce two variants in the beginning and will bring in more if there is a demand. The car will be competing with the entry level hatchbacks and the lower variant of 1300 cc car is estimated to cost around Rs 1.5 million. However, the price of the higher variant has not yet been decided.
