The entry-level Corolla will sport the company’s 1.33-liter Dual VVT-i engine that delivers 98 HP (99 PS) and 128 Nm (94 lb-ft) of torque. According to Toyota, the six-speed manual transmission version returns a combined fuel economy of 5.6 liters/100 km.
The 2014 Corolla will also feature the 1.6-liter Dual VVT-i unit and the 1.6-liter Valvematic engine. The first one is rated at 120 HP (122 PS) and 154 Nm (113 lb-ft) of torque, while the Valvematic offers 130 HP (132 PS) and 160 Nm (118 lb-ft) of torque. Average fuel economy for the 1.6-liter versions is estimated at 6.6 liters/100 km and 6 liters/100 km respectively.
The fourth and largest gasoline powerplant is the 1.8-liter Dual VVT-i. Fitted with the Multidrive S automatic transmission, Corolla’s most powerful engine pumps 138 HP (140 PS) and 173 Nm (127 lb-ft) of torque, and returns an average fuel consumption of 6.4 liters/100km.
Finally, the Corolla will go on sale with a 1.4 D-4D turbodiesel as well. The units will develop 89 HP (90 PS) and 205 Nm (151 lb-ft) of torque and return a combined fuel economy of 3.8 liters/100 km when fitted with the standard six-speed manual transmission. This diesel version will also become available with a six-speed MultiMode transmission and Stop & Start technology.
Also, Toyota announced that the 2014 Corolla will become available in three trim levels in Europe - Live, Active and Lounge.
