How we can check Speed o meter reading is changed or reversed in new models(Specialy electric speedo meter) or JDMs???

I've also wanted to know since my car's meter appears to be tampered with. also, is there any technique in knowing HOW MUCH it has been advanced? oh! digital meter of Platz here.

There is no way to check it yourself.

Go to some meter expert and he'll open the meter and can check weather is there any kinda change of IC over there.

BTW all the reconditioned car meters are reveresed.

An overseas friend claim that in his country, a family that specialise in changing meter reading is earning big bucks!

Meters in used cars are normally change before they are export.

There are no way to check unless you know how to change the meter too.

Car condition can tells you the exact meter reading. no need to go to any Meter Repairing shop....
And remember if you drop your plan to buy a car coz of its high millage (apart from its condition) you are a big fool....at some extend High Millage effects but if the condition of a car is good..go ahead

i think it can be checked with a OBD (on board diagnostics) tyre thread, engine condition. a cousin was going to buy a 20k driven markx was checkd by toyota on checking it was revealed to be driven around 40+ the deal was called off

as killervtec said.... in order to temper the reading, an ic chip has to be de-soldered reprogrammed and the soldered again, opening up the meter and looking at the ic can tell you either it has been done or not

You can check the conditions of the screws of the dash board. Like Chinyoti said, you can judge by the tire thread but from where you will have the actual thread depths and you need depth meters as well.

If the condition is good overall, don't miss the car and don't get yourself too touch about these things.

i have seen personally CL9s and 7series meter reversed in rawalpindi so thr not much of a check to know but alos hints such as weared steering wheel gear knobs do give clues if the meters says low millage!!!! also on old cars if the numbers dont line up all in one line then its been clocked backwards for sure!!! easiest way is the steering wheel it should give a wear look or rubbed feel!

In Pakistan we only see car show-sha but abroad mileage is consider, my suggestion is check both espisally interior for usage check gear lever, scratches on steering, seat conditions, mat/carpet (origional one) and accelator brake pedal covers you easily judge car driven or mileage.

this is quite interesting, a week ago i started a thread with same sorta question only difference was i wanted to knw how to reverse digital meter....i havnt done any kind of fraud (bt still i wz accused of) neither i had any intetntions....but here in uk an uncle g knocked down couple of thousand miles simply connecting a cable to somewher under dashboard am not sure was it the ecu or what, bt the place was under steering wheel...on his laptop he deleted the previous numbers and entered new numbers...it took harldy 5 mins.....and beleive me that car passed its MOT (i hope most of u guys know wat MOT is, especially uk members ) so i thnk IC thng fails here.....and if you want i can post the link to that product which does ths job bti ithnk thats nt allowed

bhai jaan if I show you a car in such a nyce condidtion here, no body can judge thy had done 200k+ miles on thm and totaly geneuine....so rule this out aswell

i heard something similar some device attached with laptop n then IT connecter n u can change millege of ur car's meter. An OBD tester can't check this cheating?

yes, no device can check the meter if its tempered! bacause, the ICs can be reprogrammed to display desired results!

For BMW E38 users and buyers


i had a BMW with some problem in odo reading display and i asked around why isnt display clear, i didnt get a clear answer as no one gives a straight answer here to avoid being questioned later that " you said that to me on that date"

so in order to change the odo display i read the wiring comes from ecu, so when you change the odo in 7 series it will still show the same reading, and ecu of BMW is linked with VIN number of car , result is the whole car is connected to its VIN number and to change a part you have to send in the VIN number to BMW for correct pre setting before installing that display wired to ecu
