    Its honada's implementation for non CVT automatics and is used in civics (kinda makes me wonder what they used in accords)

    Desi explanation

    Automatic - noticeable jhatka when the gear-shift occurs.
    Prosmatec - noticeably less jhatka when the gear-shift occurs.
    CVT - un-noticeable jhatka.

    Automatic and Prosmatec both have a gearbox, however automatically controlled. CVT is without a gear box. It is a simple technique (atleast theoratically - using two pulleys with adjustable dia and a belt in smaller cars) and supposed to be more proficient and fuel economic (it also has its cons, like a constant requirement of power for hydraulic system managing the pulleys). It is still a developing technology and is supposed be the future of transmission systems. Nissan is the leading proponent of this technology. You can only realise the difference if you drive a CVT car. However in Pakistan, where even automatic is not the preferred option, I dont see any future of this technology, unless corolla adopts it. For instance, Steermatic was a failure.

    For more information, a CVT was designed by Leanardo Da Vinci around 500 years ago and it is practically implemented now a days.

    CVT has unlimited gears... u wud never feel a gear shift . the rpm will rise or fall constantly.inside the cvt gearbox, theres a cone sort of thing and the pulley goes up and down on it adjusting the speed according to the rpm.

    automatic is just when the car shifts gears on its own.

    prosmatec(progressive shift management technology) is a better type of automatic gear with smoother gear shifts


    steermatic was a variant of honda city which had a 1.5l vtec engine with cvt gearbox AND tiptronic gears... matlab if u put the gear in the "7 speed mode", u can change the gears like manual transmission through buttons on the steering wheels

    the problem with steermatic was that the transmission in that car was itself confused if it is really a transmission.
