temperature needles on these japanese cars are for entertainment purposes at best, they are buffered to stick at one place for range of 20C meaning the engine can be between 80~100C and the needle will stick there.
The only manufacturers which use nearly live temperature gauges are GM, MB, VW and BMW - some old subarus too. Their 100C mark is actually at about 70% of the gauge and you can see it move up at standstill and get down to 80 or 90 while driving.
