    Default In gear, but not moving

    Dear PW fellow,

    I had a strange problem today en route to my office just before getting on Isb Highway. The car was in gear but not moving. Just imagine, engine is running, the car is in first gear, hand brake's down, noone's in the car (clutch is released) and i'm standing in front of the car staring at the engine, clueless. Tried shutting it down and re-starting but to to avail. After a while, pushed (me and a cab driver) it to the other side of the road and voila!! the car was moving with the gear. It's running fine till now.

    Clutch is no problem since I was able to shift gears with this problem too. RPM would increase when I would rev it but it would not move. What could be the possible cause (what do I need to get fixed).

    Car: Corolla (Indus) XE 2000. No Mods.

    ^lol

    It might be, but i'm not too hard on the car. It's not given me any issues so far even when I've just been using it with just one tuning and no repairs since I bought it 3 months ago.

    @fireblade
    what sort of problem in da gearbox? How did you get it fixed?

    @spectra
    Sir, clutch seemed fine. I was able to change gears by pressing the clutch but not without it(this is while the engine was running and the car not moving)

    hmm! gadi da goda farigh hogya hay. Or maybe the splines area is not tightly fixed n inserted upto the proper depth. call any mechanic n ask him to check the godas,i.e, if they r properly inserted into the gear box.

    we experienced similar issue with our 1968 corona RT40 and that was because the driving shaft was stolen now since yours is a front wheel drive car this cant be an issue

    there must be some clutch issue... get it checked... u can easily shift gears with a slipped clutch so it doesn't means clutch is ok...

    The transmission-side of axle(either side) might have pulled out of it's housing, that again retained it placed when you pushed your car. The axle locking mechanism of both sides needs to be checked.

    agree with testdriver.
    We have to choose either of safety or speed.
