Yesterday I visited the Riverside International Auto Museum. The museum houses the largest collection of older Maserati's in the United States. Even the Maserati guy's have come from Italy to see the museum. The car's displayed at the museum were either donated or still owned by various individuals around the country. The car's are also in different stages of restoration. The museum usually takes out the street car's to events like C&C and the race car's to vintage racing events.
The museum is about 10 mins from the world famous Riverside Raceway. Of course the track doesn't exist anymore, it was destroyed so that there could be a shopping mall and houses built there instead. The last year of racing was 1989. In 1988 the raceway was being used for 361 days for some activity or another! The track hosted a variety of race series, Formula 1, NASCAR, CanAm, and TransAm...just to name a few. Carroll Shelby tested the prototypes of the original Ford GT40 and the Cobra Daytona coupe at Riverside. The Carroll Shelby driving school was also located at the track. The museum director told me that to this day people come from all around the world to Riverside to see the famous track.
