The car was launched, officially on April, 26th 2005. But the delivery did not started till July or August, due to vendors delay, as is the case with all the other Car makers/assemblers in Pakistan.
The car sales figures are not available for general public. But the company has mentioned that its "on target" for its first year goal of 5,000 cars. So, considering it not full year till June or July of 2006, they are doing quite well.
Another fact is that the demand for this car is more than what company is currently capable of producing. So, the government has relaxed the import duty on 800cc cars and now the duties are as low as 50% on completely built up, imported car, it used to be as much as 90% for 800cc. India still has about 80 %to 100% duty on even 800cc cars, even though that country is in surplus, when it comes to making cars, and is exporting cars at this stage. That is "Over Protectionism" from the government side, when dealing with IMPORTS.
While in Pakistan we now have case of government's apathy and "Under Protectionism", due to government getting tired of being blamed for the lack of options for the general public, due to high price of local made cars and shortage of cars. So, the government has caved in to Consumer demand, while the auto makers are now not happy with government's sudden shift, to lower the tariffs down to 50%.
So, let see, what happens next.
