Your answer cannot explain many factors to consider;;
Total mileage covered in a year?
4000===Sure
15000===Not sure
Months?
any mileage=6months max=ok
any mileage>6months= not ok
Which type of oil used?
Fully synthetic==7000kms=ok
==15000kms=not ok
Semi synthetic==5000kms=ok
==7000kms=not ok
Mineral or Dino==4500kms==ok
6000kms=not ok
Climate conditions:
many factors are involved
Dusty conditions reduce engine oil life
High temperatures shear down oil grade(Fully synthetic oils have high shear stability)
Road conditions(COntinous stops and driving in low gears--Oil has to work extra hard)
Maximum six month drain interval is a standard for most lubricants manufacturers..Tell your friend wait a little more till your PISTON RINGS get fried..
The biggest reason for worn out RINGS is BAD habit of not following oil drains religiously..
I dont think your friend is using AMSOIL(10000 miles/still six months) extended drain interval oils(expensive and highest in quality)
Maybe he is using mobil1 or liqui moly fully synthetic oil..But clocking more than 8000Kms and considering sever dusty conditions + more warm climate in Pakistan you are doing more harm to your vehicle than good.At 15000kms without changing oil filter + dirty air filter i cannot fathom the ruckus it causes to that unfortunate engine..
I have seen and observed how engines fry first hand this is my experience talking not friend..I have clocked 290k kms on Honda Civic 95 by regular oil drains and maintenance..I have kept cars which have last nearly 2 decades without an engine overhaul..Nowadays ppl have a habit of changing cars every 3 years or so..
P.s i am not speaking specifically for civic but generally for cars driven in Pakistan where people use Shell peela dabba,caltexzic more than any imported oil which are in no way close in quality to brands like amsoil/mobil1..
