Default Cultus VXR 2000... A gem... A real workhorse

Perhaps an outdated design in 21st century, coupled with serious quality issues from PakSuzuki these days i know it would not seem good to open a thread in favor of Suzuki Cultus but things almost 8 years back were very different from that of today.. comparing the first gen cultus (2000-02) with that of today, i would rate the early cultus anyday over the new one... why??... this is the example! please say Masha'Allah

older members at Pakwheels know my car, its been with me for almost 3 years now and has clocked more than 1 lac 65 thousand kilometers and i have tried my best to retain it in its showroom condition... the pictures might speak for themselves.. Alhamdulillah its doing perfectly fine and i havent found a single trouble or quality issue in it so far... it has proven to be a very dependable car for me as its the only vehicle i have, so the daily running is more than 80kms in karachi, sometimes even going beyond 100kms in the worst of driving conditions.. its a real workhorse!

i dont think the price of 8.33lacs these days is justified for cultus, 3 years back it used to be 5.90 (even then it was overpriced) so i always recommend everyone (who wana buy cultus) to go for a well-kept used one (like i did) rather than paying for a zero meter overpriced car with quality issues... early cultus were better built without any doubt & the interior was of superior quality too!

i got this car for 4 lac 10 thousand (without CNG) and costed me around 4.48 lac after installing CNG.. i was lucky to find a well maintained car as the car was almost 6 years old the time when i purchased it, and still had plastic covers on!! those people who are not car enthusiasts even asked me how much own did i paid for this car (however its clearly evident from the number plate that the car belongs to year 2000)..

anyway, the reason to post this thread is to share my in depth experience maintaining this ride.. in these 3 years i have been able to understand the cultus very well and hence will be happy to share my experience with other fellow members... i will periodically post info about the various maintenance stages here & also would like other members to shar their experiences with me..

lastly! it has been a great decision to go for 2000 Cultus!

i changed the tyres earlier this year from 155/80 R13 to 175/70 R13.. previously my ride had Bridgestone B391 installed by its previous owner which i kept running for 18 months or so.. B391s use to come with imported vehicles specially vitz... although all the tyres were in perfect conditions and treads very much there but the front left one had lost its shape and had developed kind of a bubble so ride became quite bumpy..

since i cannot spend a hefty amount on maintenance and shashkaas, so i started looking for better yet cheaper solution to the problem.. after a thorough survey and research on internet i opted for GT radials.. the indonesian brand available in relatively cheaper rates.. GTR 378 was the product i got.. GT radial sounds better unless you know what GT actually stands for.. its called Gajjah Tunggal i had to pay 9000/- (after settling the old tyres)

anyway i found them a good low-budget solution so far.. the road grip is good and braking has been dramatically improved.. however the are some -ve points as well..

    + points:
    good road grip
    improved braking
    cheaper rates

    -ve points:
not so beautiful tyre.. doesnt add much to the beauty of ur car
slightly noisy.. the drive ride becomes slightly noisy & if u are use to with the super calm & quite ride, this one might bother you
in wet/ rainy conditions they are not as good as they are in dry conditions

few pix while changing the tyres... bad quality pix due to lack of light n mobile cam..

^^ there is a slight difference in fuel economy... before changing the tyres i use to get 155-160km/ filling... now its about 140-145km.. steering has become harder but if you have PS in your cultus i dont think its going to make much difference to you.. since my cultus is without PS so i felt a little hardness in steering initially which later on reduced a lot

when installing these wider tyres one should also put lighter rims as well, since i was running out of budget so i dint went for the rims, light rims will compensate the additional weight of the wider tyres.. thus will improve fuel economy and handling

Usman my cultus is non PS and since my mom drives it, i guess ill stick to generals for now unless i found some nice branded tyres in the stock width.

if its driven by ladies then you should go for 155/80 R13 which is the recommended size for cultus, however you should change the stock General Tyres to any better brand, you will experience a good difference!
