Default Cultus VXR 2000... A gem... A real workhorse

Perhaps an outdated design in 21st century, coupled with serious quality issues from PakSuzuki these days i know it would not seem good to open a thread in favor of Suzuki Cultus but things almost 8 years back were very different from that of today.. comparing the first gen cultus (2000-02) with that of today, i would rate the early cultus anyday over the new one... why??... this is the example! please say Masha'Allah

older members at Pakwheels know my car, its been with me for almost 3 years now and has clocked more than 1 lac 65 thousand kilometers and i have tried my best to retain it in its showroom condition... the pictures might speak for themselves.. Alhamdulillah its doing perfectly fine and i havent found a single trouble or quality issue in it so far... it has proven to be a very dependable car for me as its the only vehicle i have, so the daily running is more than 80kms in karachi, sometimes even going beyond 100kms in the worst of driving conditions.. its a real workhorse!

i dont think the price of 8.33lacs these days is justified for cultus, 3 years back it used to be 5.90 (even then it was overpriced) so i always recommend everyone (who wana buy cultus) to go for a well-kept used one (like i did) rather than paying for a zero meter overpriced car with quality issues... early cultus were better built without any doubt & the interior was of superior quality too!

i got this car for 4 lac 10 thousand (without CNG) and costed me around 4.48 lac after installing CNG.. i was lucky to find a well maintained car as the car was almost 6 years old the time when i purchased it, and still had plastic covers on!! those people who are not car enthusiasts even asked me how much own did i paid for this car (however its clearly evident from the number plate that the car belongs to year 2000)..

anyway, the reason to post this thread is to share my in depth experience maintaining this ride.. in these 3 years i have been able to understand the cultus very well and hence will be happy to share my experience with other fellow members... i will periodically post info about the various maintenance stages here & also would like other members to shar their experiences with me..

lastly! it has been a great decision to go for 2000 Cultus!

thanks for the advice usman...will stick to generals till i find a better alternative..secondly do you honestly think its possible to find a 8 year old cultus run on the terrible roads of khi in good/excellent condition?. most cultus's that i have seen (yours and kizzi's excluded lol) are treated like dirt by their owners...

ps: im using shell helix (blue can) in my vxri..suzuki guys were reluctant to sell me the genuine japanese oil filter without an actual change (DANISH motors)

^^offcourse there are people who keep their cars in perfectly good shape.. i have even seen better rides than mine (2000 cultus).. but finding such a car is definitely tough... if u see 8 years is not such a bigger lifespan.. some people keep even keep their 20 years old ride just as good as new. its just upto the owner how he cares... but you r right most people judt dont care about the cars..

another important thing is the use of genuine parts.. i have experienced that if u try to save money by going for cheaper solutions, in most cases u end up spending more money than that of original parts... thats y i try to go for genuine parts, they always work better than after market cheaper options.

like... i had to change the fuel pump (which is located in the fuel tank) as the original one got out of order after the car went in heavy rain fall. The genuine one at that time was 2400/- dont know about the current price, it looked expensive to me so i opted for cheaper solutions and found a chinese fuel pump for just 800 rupees.. i happily installed it but it worked only for a few months after which i had to change the fuel pump again.. so in order to save some money i actually spent more than the actual cost of 2400 rupees.

similarly the shocks & springs does not perform as good as the original ones, so i am thinking to get the genuine ones next time.

lollz @ china fuel pump for 800 just like genuine toshiba cell is 8 rupee each, chinese toyoshiba are 10 rupees for 4!!
if tc=p then hc=m where tc is equal to toyota corolla and p is equal to paindu, and hc is equal to honda civic and m is equal to moron

Usman, even suzuki is using Guard products for both oil/air filter. My VXRis original air filter from the factory crapped out at a mere 4000km (car is run very carefully and not in the desert ). When i inquired for a JDM air filter at a reputable spare part shop, i was shown a toyota filter which seemed to be of exact same size but costed 1500 bucks...so whats up with that?

well akbar i can tell u, talkingt about suzukis every user/ owner always have different experiences there is no sustained quality of products.. one might enjoy a perfect performance while others may not be lucky enough to find flawless parts.. well 1500 is too much for an air filter... i dont remember that i ever paid more than 225 for an air filter for my car.. even though its an SGP product, i never bought any from the 'genuine dealers' ever

Agreed, i opted for a reputable malaysian air filter instead (350rs). If possible please guide me where i can find a genuine (Japanese) air filter for my vehicle. Thanks!

well genuine is available everywhere in the market but i highly doubt about the availability of a japanese air filter for this car, i mean cultus what i have been using is a local product having an SGP label on it.
