From what i understand is that automotive is neither the top contributor to exchequer neither the industry giving the maximum employment.
Economy thrives by industries giving tax to the country and producing jobs. So are our industries producing jobs and giving tax? the answer is a mixed one. we know that most of the industrialist avoid tax by kick backs. and about jobs, the whole CNG industry has been destroyed by stupid policies. Fertilizer factories are not getting natural gas to complete the chemical process, Textile factories which were a much bigger economy booster factories are not getting enough electricity thus causing loss of several thousand of workers. One the other hand the govt is a rubber doll in the hand of IPPs which get natural gas for electricity production and they were instead planned to be run on Diesel. Still the cost per unit of electricity that they charge is equivalent to diesel.
Then comes the attitude of these companies towards Pakistani masses, because they bribe each and every govt, for the exaggerated prices they get from the customers, even good companies like toyota and Honda look down upon us as a customers and customer satisfaction is lacking , due to non provision of even the basic necessities.
About imports, although importers like Industrialists have a habit to avoid taxation, but since the production cost is not there, so the importers dont have to pay for the expensive production cost as well. the govt get their taxes directly on the cars outta them and we, the masses get a quality car in less price!
Till the time that the energy crisis is resolved, which seems no time soon, so we cant see our industries progressing. Products are judged by their price and quality, both of these unfortunately disappoint us. and then if customers are not given a choice, it is called encouraging monoply.
