I agree, one should not violae these Signals But I do find it difficult to deal with them.
I believe Traffic lights should have a working Yellow light, so that a Driver knows when to get Ready for a Stop or a Go.
I believe that Yellow light signal should be at ON before a Red light Signal. You should know when to slow down for a Complete Stop instead of always getting Ready for a Jerky Brake.
Let me give an Example:
I have driven several time from F-10/3 to Air University via Khyaban - e- Iqbal Road. There are two Traffic light signals, One at Uni's road itself and other at the Khyaban-e-Iqbal Road. Today I was on my way back to home after picking my elder Sister from the Uni. I successfully passed the Signal on the Uni's road, but I crossed it a little late (There were two cars ahead me). When I turned to the Khyaban-e-Iqbal road, I was about to approach it's Signal. I knew that the Green signal could change to Red, so I slowed down to about 20 mph ( Don't know for sure, I was focused on the Signal). As I approached the Zebra crossing, the Signal abruptly changed to Red ( Or maybe there was a 1/2 second Yellow light before it ). I applied abrupt Brakes, and I felt embarrassed because of my Sister sitting at the Rear felt that.
It was not the first time, it had happened a few Times before as well.
Slowing Down, when it is Green is a Tricky process.
If you are too slow, you would probably anger the people behind your car. And yes could be dangerous if you keep that Slow after passing the Signal, it may turn Red and Cars at other Signals might start moving ( Making you either run into an accident or an awkward lunatic for others ).
And if you are fast or too fast, I believe its always dangerous.
But the point is if you want to Drive smooth, poor Traffic light Signals will mostly be an Obstacle.
