Default Protecting Yourself During Terrorist Attack

Protecting Yourself During Terrorist Attack

Being alert is the only important thing in terror attacks. Be alert, be alert and be alert!

During

If there’s an explosion or shooting:
• Remain calm. Take cover under a desk or sturdy table if ceiling tiles, bookshelves, their contents, etc., begin to fall.
• Stay away from windows.
• Exit the building as quickly as possible, provided if it is safe to do so.
• Lay low if you are in an open area.
• Follow instructions given by the authority.
• If shooting starts, drop to the floor or get down as low as possible and try to shield yourself behind or under a solid object.
• Follow all instructions and orders from terrorists or rescuers.
• Do not move until you are certain the danger has passed.
• Do not attempt to help rescuers and do not pick up a weapon.
• If you must move, crawl on your stomach or as instructed by rescuers.

If there's a fire:

• Stay low to the floor at all times and exit the building as quickly as possible. Heavy smoke and poisonous gases collect near the ceiling first.
• Use a wet cloth to cover your nose and mouth.
• Use the back of your hand to feel closed doors. If the door is not hot, brace yourself against the door and open it slowly. Do not open the door if it is hot.
• Seek another escape route.
• Use appropriate fire exits, not elevators.

After

If you are trapped in debris:
• If possible, use a flashlight or whistle to signal rescuers regarding your location.
• Stay in your area so that you don't kick up dust.
• Cover your mouth with a handkerchief or clothing.
• Tap on a pipe or wall so that rescuers can hear where you are.
• Shout only as a last resort – shouting can cause a person to inhale dangerous amounts of dust.

Protective Actions

Protective actions are actions we take to safeguard ourselves from harm. The most common emergency protective actions are evacuation and shelter-in-place:
• Evacuation means to leave the area of actual or potential hazard.
• Shelter in place means to stay indoors.

@All Pakwheelers

Any other suggestions from Pakwheelers would be more helpful. So please write if you have something in your mind.

Best regards

*Avoid crowds
*Only go out when necessary
*Keep a cell phone with you at all times, should you reach a situation of helplessness
*Install bulletproof tyres and windows and an explosion-resistant fuel tank...

May Allah bless us all, with safety and security, now and always. Ameen.

PREVENTING TERRORIST ATTACK:
How You Can Help.

08/02/04

This is a message that bears repeating, no matter where you live in the world: Your assistance is needed in preventing terrorist acts.

It's a fact that certain kinds of activities can indicate terrorist plans that are in the works, especially when they occur at or near high profile sites or places where large numbers of people gather--like government buildings, military facilities, utilities, bus or train stations, major public events. If you see or know about suspicious activities, like the ones listed below, please report them immediately to the proper authorities. In the United States, that means your closest Joint Terrorist Task Force, located in an FBI Field Office. In other countries, that means your closest law enforcement/counterterrorism agency.

Surveillance: Are you aware of anyone video recording or monitoring activities, taking notes, using cameras, maps, binoculars, etc., near key facilities/events?

Suspicious Questioning: Are you aware of anyone attempting to gain information in person, by phone, mail, email, etc., regarding a key facility or people who work there?

Tests of Security: Are you aware of any attempts to penetrate or test physical security or procedures at a key facility/event?

Acquiring Supplies: Are you aware of anyone attempting to improperly acquire explosives, weapons, ammunition, dangerous chemicals, uniforms, badges, flight manuals, access cards or identification for a key facility/event or to legally obtain items under suspicious circumstances that could be used in a terrorist attack?

Suspicious Persons: Are you aware of anyone who does not appear to belong in the workplace, neighborhood, business establishment or near a key facility/event?

"Dry Runs": Have you observed any behavior that appears to be preparation for a terrorist act, such as mapping out routes, playing out scenarios with other people, monitoring key facilities/events, timing traffic lights or traffic flow, or other suspicious activities?

Deploying Assets: Have you observed abandoned vehicles, stockpiling of suspicious materials, or persons being deployed near a key facility/event?

If you answered yes to any of the above...if you have observed any suspicious activity that may relate to terrorism...again, please contact the Joint Terrorist Task Force or law enforcement/counterterrorism agency closest to you immediately. Your tip could save the lives of innocent people, just like you and yours.

The reality of trying to save yourself from an attack you don't see coming is perhaps the scariest thing in all of this.

I never thought I'd ever see this sort of information in my entire lifetime... May Allah make our time on His earth as fruitful as possible. These suicide attacks have now made life very unpredictable.

Security Advice

1. T

here is now a different technique being adopted by the terrorists in meeting their objectives. The
suicide bombers
adopt the following

technique.

They ask / request for a lift from a lone driver and they get into the car.

  • They get into a car which is parked /stopped at a
    traffic signal
or is caught in a traffic jam.

    /li

  • They also target vehicle which stops at an intersection or which is being parked /or is about to slow down.

    /li

  • They also target car / vehicle driven by a lady.

    /li

2.

In this manner, they get in to the car/ vehicle and force the driver to take them to their target location for their activities.

3.

All persons are advised to take the following precautions:

  • Have all yours doors locked while driving.

    /li

  • Have all your windows rolled up.

    /li

  • Do not give lift to the strangers. Be careful with known persons even.

    /li

  • Be extra vigilant at the
    traffic signals
or while slowing down at an intersection and while parking.

    /li

  • Look around before you reach your parked vehicle for any suspicious person(s).

    /li

  • Do not open the locks of your car through remote device from long distance. Reach close to the door and then open.

    /li

  • Do not sit in the cars parked at any location. Get out of car, lock it and wait outside. Advice your

    family members/

    drivers also.

    /li

4. Please be vigilant all the time.
