It all depends what you want & what your use shall be;
Are you a beginner ? Do you want to buy it for normal day to day pics or are you taking it up as a hobby ? Do you want a simple point & shoot or a complex D-SLR? What do you intend to shoot ? What's your budget ?

I am using Canon Digital IXUS 950, Sony Cybershot T300 and Nikon D40. I believe Sony Cybershot is a lot better than Canon. If you are buying non-professional home use camera then my suggestion is Sony. If you are beginner and you are interested in photography then you should get Nikon D40 as its cheaper in terms of lens and all. Canon is too good in professional cameras but lens etc are way too expensive when compared with Nikon.
Good Luck.
