Are Nintendo Wii's really defective and malfunctioning?

Salam everybody,

I live in Islamabad and went out to buy a Nintendo Wii. I roamed around F-11 and F-10 markaz and I could not find a Wii anywhere. Everybody had XBox 360's and PS3's. I was told by almost all of the shopkeepers that they have stopped selling Wii because there are a lot of complaints regarding games not running on modded Wii's.

My questions is - Are they telling the truth about the Wii being faulty or is it something to do with the recent release of the Wii-U? Anybody who owns a Wii, please tell me your bad/good experiences.

listen man its not defected but its for kids under 15 because all the high powered games come on xbox nd ps3.the wi only offers games like mario nd sonic :\ it does offer mw3 nd nfs but with pathetic graphics id say buy a xbox360 4gb one (if ur budget is less).no one buys a wii :| well u can get one from f7 markaz toy land if u need one but trust me its useless.
about opnion i neva saw any one buying a wii pakistan mein chali he naie he naie hai ye :\ f10 illusions pe u can find its disks.fault koi naie hai im a gammer since 5 yrz nd i know alot about these koi fault naie hai game is good but there aint good titles on it.
f7 mein toyland or plug and play there r the shops where u can get it.

I've had Wii for a few years now and its still working, the only problem i had with it was the drive lens not reading correctly so i had to replace the lens. But now you can play all games through USB/Portable Hard Drives etc so you wont need to use its drive too much. Never had any other problems with it, BUT it might be possible that the latest batch has some manufacturing faults (very unlikely).

Well I have also heard that pirated cd's have stopped coming for wii , If u want wii then it's better to also buy a portable hard disk in which u can store 170 games (320 gb I think ) and it'z also cheap to install the game at harddisk. But it will be way better to buy a xbox 360 with kinnect

Thanks a lot guys - I really appreciate your sharing of opinions.

I know Wii is mostly good for casual gaming only and I was planning to buy it for the wife hence games like mario, sports and sonic are pretty much what I am looking for...

Also, I am planning to run downloaded games so a lens problem is not a show-stopper for me.
