using Silhouettes (slotty character) is definitely permissible . as per ijma of all main stream fiqh .( subject to the central idea and msg of the video )
regarding the use of characters like you have pointed out , yes you are right . according to the strict side yes it is better not to leap into the mainstream cartoons 99% would drag out outside the bound .
regarding the point of the reference clips , these are for reference only , not the actual content . nor the script .
now before i answer your next Question/objection , its a need of the moment to highlight the difference between Fatwa and Taqwa .
now
there is a clear cut order in shariah , to raise your lower wearing , above your ankle .
i read it , and i go ahead and raise it , 6 inches above my ankle . as high as it can be .
You read it , go ahead and raise it 1 inch above the ankle .
Now , both of us are correct , no one is doing wrong , 1 inch is the minimum requirement to begin with , while on the higher side the extent goes uptil the knees .
Now I , who has raised it 6 inch high , has observed Taqwa ,
and you have observed fatwa ( by raising One inch) . i m on the better side , but you are not wrong too ....
the problem begins , When the person observing Taqwa starts enforcing it as the only valid act . and starts calling the person observing fatwa as wrong . Who is absolutely not wrong as he is fulfilling the minimum requirements at the border line .
while it is always better to remain as far as possible from the border line .
now , we come back to the topic itself , characters and the shariah limitations according to my humble understanding .
from the study of islam and various Fiqh , i know as a matter of fact ,
that in islam , there are areas which are clearly permissable - WHITE -
are clearly prohibited - Black
but then there are matters which lye in shades of grey , no direct ruling or explanation is available , and hence QAYAAS is observed in these areas . take a look at these ....
4 categories ,
from perfectly permissible to perfectly haram , with shades of grey .
the shades of grey area is a bit tacky , it is always better and TAQWA to stay on the borderline , on the WHITE area ,
first one is clearly permissible .
however , the next shade of grey is still a slotty , its very close to a slotty , but only the definitions are making it shady ....
next , we see the image of a clear character , its more close to the haram side , and unsafe to go this way . because the definitions are clearly evident .
next is a painting of a kid , a perfect haram example .
" please note * according to my humble understanding , i only consider creating paintings as haram ,
Photos shot with camera's and videos shot with camera's . i consider them to have a ruling of the naked eye . ( subject to their content )
if no " cher chaar is done with the creators creation " and shown as it is , then the principle of a mirror image applies .
its " creating the creators creation which is termed perfectly haram .
so
1. silhouttes can be done without a thought ,
2. silhouttes with a little definition , i personally consider them on just on the border line , the entry to .unsafe area .
3.silhouettes/ characters with evident definitions , i personally would run away from .
4.creating and imitating the creators creation - that is perfectly haram .
so i would just stick to the first 2 categories , to be on the safe side .
there is more to this topic , it doesn't end here , but to give you an example , who is categorizing EVERYTHING as haram altogether .
i just wanted to explain that the area for doing halal work is small in this field , but its not impossible .
following TAQWA is good , but calling those wronged who are observing the Fatwa - That is wrong .
Hope am clear .
