Back in early 90s Russian Army's night vision equipment (it used to be like a radar speed gun, dont really know what to call it) used to sell for 800-1000 in Hayatabad Industrial estate markets (commonly known as barra market)...even i bought one for myself and was surprised to know it didnt use to work in zero lux i.e pitch darkness..it would work in moonlight or with the aide of some light source but not in complete darkness, so i returned it..modern video cameras with zero lux night vision capabilities work better..
