Unhappy Toyota Vitz 2008 Fuel Economy

Few days back i bought an unregistered toyota vitz 2008 1000cc. I can swear it is not giving me more than 8.9km/l economy. Firstly i thought it was because i kept the air conditioner on all the time but then i tried without the ac and still the same result and i dont drive aggressively at all, seriously i just cruise at 40km\h max in the city with no sudden accelerations and the rpm below 2000. I had the air filter checked it was clean and did not need replacement, i changed the oil, got the car tuned up but no change. I also own a Honda City 2011 mannual i-vtec and that 1300cc car with much more power than the vitz gives me averagely 13-15km\l in city and 23km\l long. I am planning to visit toyota showroom in Islamabad tomorrow and if i get any improvement i will post but till today my vitz is giving less than 9km\l although, theoretically with only 1000cc and continuous variable transmission(CVT) this car is supposed to give more than 15km\l.
Plus the car is in stock condition, i haven't installed bigger tyres or any other performance upgrade that might ruin fuel economy. Any one who knows a solution to this problem is very welcome to share their thoughts.

Another common cause of low mileage is a driving a A/T car in low gears like every time u hit break u immediately press accelerator for more power
Using a normal gear ratio does wonders ppl

its the fuel.. vitz requires 91 ron while supreme has 87 and hi octane has 97 use them in a 60/40 ratio and then see the mileage

I visited toyota Islamabad Motors in G6 yesterday and the toyota engineer said this car is not supposed to give more that 10km\l in city because it is A\T, he said the prosmetic coure which is there for showroom services gives us 7km\l so its totally normal if your car gives this economy, even then i had my car tuned up, had its throttle body cleaned and the air filter cleaned again although it was new. after all this i drove in islamabad city and still same result, so i've accepted the fact that this car will give very little fuel economy in city but excellent economy on highway/motorway. Next time if any one would ask me about vitz fuel economy this will be my response.

Bhai jan toyota guy is full of it
I assure u this car gives 12-14 km /L atleast in the city WITH ac

1.Get a good fuel injector and use it
2.get ur vitz plug changed to a top of the line product
    3. Use mixture of supreme/hi octane as stated above
    4. It might b ur foot on the gas that is the problem i.e. u r shifting gears too many times in the city

My old 2004 vitz gave me 13-14km/L avg in the city with ac so this 2008 model is more fuel efficient

    Default vitz 2006

I own vitz 2006 1.3l, its giving me 10.5 even i drive my car with not more than 10% of acceleration. These cars are not meant for pakistani roads so accept the fact that the fuel avg is normal. Nothing wrong with your car.

DONT use any fuel additives in cars which are equipped with CAT convertor. these additives when burns with fuel clogged the CAT.

bro got 2 of dese models , its exactly gonna give u dis average nuthing more thn dat 2 da max it will give 10 10.5 widout ac in local widout ac !
2ndly if its a fresh import , remove its catalytic converter/filter will charge u just 200 rs , if its choked ur car will use more fuel n poorer performance ! remove it any way , will make da exhaust slightly nosier thought

    Hello,

I had the same problem with my Vitz, poor mileage and slow idle.
I bought a can of carburetor cleaner, took off the air filter assembly, cleaned the throttle body by thoroughly rubbing all the inside chamber including the butter fly. Its should be totally clean, especially the lower edges of the butterfly.
Then take out the MAF sensor and clean it with the carburator cleaner at least 2 to 3 times and put it in sun to dry.
Take out the plugs and replace then with OEM NGK standard plugs they should be xxxxxxxxx-11.

It worked for me and my car is giving 13 (with AC 24/7) in Lahore (around kalma chowk) in severe traffic jams.
