ASA brothers,
Just want to share my story of changing gear oil and general tuning of my car Suzuki Alto 660 cc automatic. Its 2007/8 model.
Those brothers who have not changed gear oil (automatic transmission fluid), I strongly recommend to change it because when these cars land to our country from Japan or any other country, it requires proper checking of fluids and other things. I believe they have not changed gear oil since the birth of the car (happened with me).
My car when I bought, it was 60k on odo. I directly bought it from auction in Karachi (I was in Karachi at that time) and I was satisfied that the reading on odo would be accurate because it came directly from the port/customs after clearance. So after purchasing that car I just changed engine oil (it was shell in it because it had shell written all over under the hood) and so I continued to pour shell in it. I never bothered about gear oil, just checked it myself and shown to a mechanic who said it is ok now. I drove the car further to 10k (70k on odo now). I know my car needed gear oil change because I start feeling some difference since the time this car came to my hand. I asked couple of times here on forums about which oil should I use in this because I have no manual and I tried to find it online but could not get exact and satisfied answer. So, today I went ahead and changed the gear oil. At first, we figured out proper gear oil for this engine. We selected Kixx ATF III multi (according to mechanic in Filter house - if we dont know which oil should we use and if we have no manual document and dont know whether is it a CVT or other normal automatic transmission then we use multi type ATF). The mechanic who tried to open the gear "tappa" because this car does not have any bolt to open and drain the gear oil out like engine oil told me that I think this is we are opening it for the very first time for sure because it was very tight and we realized that this car ran for 70k on the first gear oil. We may be wrong here but when the oil came out, it was so smelly and burned up - we could not breath in front of it. After changing gear oil successfully, we took a test drive to see if the gear oil tappa is sealed properly (used silicon - this is the way it is and most 660cc automatic cars have). Thanks to Allah Almighty that I changed it on time because it could have ruined the gear box.
Next - the mechanic opened up throttle body, air filter and spark plugs - cleaned properly and fitted back. Looks like every body needs to check and do these main things after getting JDM cars.
I will update the mileage after all these things done and I am very much relieved now :). In city I used to get 16km/l without A/C and 13-14km/l with A/C. I am going to drive on motorway this time and see what I get.
