Remember that Nokia PureView tease from a few days ago? Well, suddenly it all makes sense. We are indeed looking at an imaging flagship phone and a true successor to the N8. It's called the 808 PureView and it's expected to reach Europe in the next quarter for a price of 450 Euros. Before we move on to its craziest feature -- the camera, of course! --
Now that Carl Zeiss-lensed camera: it handles continuous-focus 1080p, but is claimed to have an incredible sensor resolution of over 41-megapixels when shooting stills -- or 34-megapixels for 16:9 images. It's achieved by some clever sub-pixel interpolation jiggery-pokery that entails five pixels being merged into one to produce a smaller file size.

It depends on how u use its f2.4 lens and 1/1.2" sensor which will give a DOF of around f5.6 equivalent of an APS-C sensor; meaning less DOF but more light to use it.

So far this is the only sample image with some DOF created by close focusing technique but i don't expect it to produce bokeh like DSLRs.

Nonetheless, definitely it is way better than any other camera phone and P&S.

    Image size is 7152x5368

The purpose would be to get a camera phone which can be easily carried anywhere all the time in pocket and at same time giving extraordinary image quality for routine daily life shots. I cannot carry my Canon T2i with 4 lenses everywhere and so many times those beautiful photography opportunities pass by begging to be shot

So if detailed reviews fall in line with its intro then i am definitely in for one

Exactly. Combined with an OS that is obsolete, this phone is pretty much useless. For those that want to print big photo, they'll get a camera specifically made for such a purpose.

Actually, printing big or bragging 41MP shots are not the main focus or highlight.

The tech they are focusing at is supposed to use 7 pixels to downsample to one pixel and create high quality images in 2,5,8MP range. The technology claims to produce high detail, low noise shots with this method.

Symbian is a minus for me as well but N8 with Belle isn't that bad.

It shouldn't be late when such phone will be in the market. Nikoa rep were quoted saying that it would have taken another year or so to develop such phone if they had delayed the launch of this technology. So, right now only Symbian seems to be able to handle it.

On another note ........ Nokia never claimed that they have launched a COMPETITOR of DSLRs ...... so relaxe guys

Its a camera phone with much better camera than any other camera phone or point & shoots.

^ Link to that shot ?

bro its not about just the random shots .. on the day in the daylight yes n8 shots will be sometimes better . because of 12 mp resolution .. compared to 8 mpx pureview as in the daytime there is nothing much magic pureview can produce as n8 also produce stunning shots . but its the low light and the video recording and the lossless zoom where the pure view come into play

let me put a link to one of my favorite test shot with 808 (video) its post processes but just to let you know what it is capable of
