As most of the friends we also visited Kaghan Valley and admired the blessings of Allah bestowed upon us in the shape of most beautiful lush green meadows, snowcapped peaks and marvelous lakes. Following is a glimpse of the stunning beauty of this valley along with a summary of our tour.

Summary of the tour

We started our journey from Lahore on July 11, 2009 and took the 10:30 PM bus and reached Mansehra around 05:50 AM the bus fare was Rs. 550 per head. We left for Naran in the first local rout Hiace which departed at 07:30 Am, the fare was Rs. 200 per head. Passing the all the hurdles due to road blocks and a pit stop at Paras we reached Naran around 12:45 PM.

After spending some time in Naran we hired a jeep and took off for the Lake Saif-ul-Malook, the jeep charged us Rs. 800 one way. As we got close to the Lake it started raining and as we reached the lake is started raining cats and dogs and we had to take shelter in a huge white tent pitched right behind the Forest Guest House (the only building on the banks of the Lake) around 07:30 PM. Mr. Khalid the owner of the tent who also happened to be the caretaker of the Forest Guest House extended a very warm welcome to us, was a very nice and friendly man. Although we had our own tents but because of the rain we preferred to stay in the Guest House and paid a nominal amount of Rs. 1,000 for the night with only one condition that we will move out of the room till 08

0 AM in the morning. The rain stopped after an hour or so and the sky was clear and full of stars, such a beautiful sight that can’t be explained in words.

Next morning Mr. Khalid arranged the horses for us to go to Ansoo Lake. We started the journey around 10

0 AM, it was a very tough trek even for the horse ride and almost covered in snow. We mounted on and off the horses as per the conditions of the trek as the snow was quite slippery and lose at parts and some parts were too steep to climb. We were the second team to reach Ansoo Lake this year and the first went there only the day before us. The last 100 to 300 feet were too tough and was like climbing a straight wall and the fresh lose snow even made it more difficult; one slip of foot could have brought us sliding 500 to 600 meters down. We managed to climb that part only
and only because of the blessing of Allah who gave us the courage to do so and also put the helping gesture in the hearts of the local horse owners accompanying us on this trek. They almost carried two of our friends during this tough part. Those people were simply great with amazing strengths and helping and humble hearts. Ansoo Lake is very beautiful and a must go destination, we reached there at around 03

0 PM and spent almost an hour there. On the return journey it was fun we slide our way down for 300 to 400 meters three times and the distance which took hours to complete on our uphill trek was completed in seconds. We reached back at Lake Saif-ul-Malook around 07

0 PM the whole trip cost was Rs. 700 per horse which seemed too low so we topped it up with a little extra amount which made the horse owners very happy. Such a long horse rids was killing us and the pain could be felt in each and every part of our body. We grabbed our stuff and hired a jeep for Naran and paid Rs. 800 again with the courtesy of Mr. Khalid. As we reached Naran the only thing on our mind was a cozy bed.

As per our original plan we had to go to Behsal the next day and camp at Doodipatsar and resting there for one day and night try for Saral Lake in the next day. But the Ansoo Lake trek and the backbreaking horse ride made all my friends so tired that they refused to go any further. The fact that we already had visited Doodipatsar in June 2007 also contributed and they also forced me to not to go alone and stick to the group. So we stayed in Naran and enjoyed a self made Bar-Be Q on the bank of river Kunhar and next day enjoyed a memorable rafting trip (another one of the must do things before you die) and decided to hit the road and head to Lahore.

So we hired a jeep from Naran till Abbottabad and started our journey and as we reached near Mansehra ( 13 or 14 Km before) around 09:30 PM our Jeep collided with a Suzuki Mehran coming from the opposite side. Our Jeep took a leap in the air then rolled over and slided for some 5 to 10 meters up sided down and then was thrown away in the ditch on the side of the road still upside down. By the Grace of Almighty Allah not only we but the passengers of Mehran survived this horrible accident without any major injury. Both our Jeep and the Mehran were totally damaged and the passer bys were really astonished on this merical that we survived without any fatal causality; we daily thank Allah for this kindness. My camera was destroyed in this accident along with the memory card which was holding the major part of the photos including Ansoo Lake and rafting photos, as I had changed the memory card during our way to Ansoo Lake. We only have one photo of Ansoo Lake which was taken by a friend through his mobile phone. People around the accident site were very kind and cooperative they stopped a Suzuki Bolan which took our injured friends to Mansehra Hospital and they also helped us in salvaging our stucked luggage from the damaged Jeep and stayed out there with us, for our support on the road for hours and until me left the place. We hired a Hiace from Mansehra and departed for Rawalpindi around 01:30 AM and reached there around 04:30 AM and departed for Lahore via Daewoo Bus and reached Lahore around 10:30 AM.

Both our Jeep and the Mehran were totally damaged and the passer bys were really astonished on this merical that we survived without any fatal causality; we daily thank Allah for this kindness. My camera was destroyed in this accident along with the memory card which was holding the major part of the photos including Ansoo Lake and rafting photos, as I had changed the memory card during our way to Ansoo Lake. We only have one photo of Ansoo Lake which was taken by a friend through his mobile phone. People around the accident site were very kind and cooperative they stopped a Suzuki Bolan which took our injured friends to Mansehra Hospital and they also helped us in salvaging our stucked luggage from the damaged Jeep and stayed out there with us, for our support on the road for hours and until me left the place.
