Ok, here it goes:
Day 1:
Left Lahore at 6:15am via M2.
Reached Bhera at 8:30am for breakfast.
Left Bhera at 9:15am and reached Abbotabad at 12:30pm via Burhan Exit.
Left Abbotabad at 1:30pm and reached Balakot at 3:15pm.
Overnight at PTDC Balakot.
Sever thunderstorm started at mid night and the light rain continued till next day 12pm
Day 2:
Left Balakot at 9:15am for Naran but had to turn back due to a land slide before Kawai (14kms from Balakot).
Came back to hotel. Road was cleared around 2:30pm and we left again at 3pm for Naran.
Landslide was pretty clear but slippery.
Overall road condition was good. Considering the roads were opened last week, i was expecting lots of glaciours after Kaghan and rightly so, there were around 4-5 big glaciours. However, road was clear and easily managable. There was a mud slide before Naran and even though they have stationed a mechine to clear the road, the condition of that patch was bad. There was a city in front of me which they had to literally push out of the mud.
Reached Naran at around 5:20pm. Temperature was 7C and we immidiately asked for LPG heaters. Stayed at PTDC Naran. thank fully they have a good arrangment of geasers and heating but still, nights were exceptionally cold.
Started raining at 9pm and the rain continued till mid night.
Day 3:
Woke up at 6:30am and was glad to see clear blue sky. Though temperature guage in the car was showing 1.2C. Spent the entire day in Naran as all the roads were blocked. Naran to Jhalkad road is closed but mechinary is working to clear the roads and i believe by end May, Babusir pass will be open. Did some fishing and was able to get hold of 2 small trout. It rained again at evening time and with it, there was a snow shower in surrounding mountains which was clearly visible afterwards. Met a guy whose Prius got damaged on that mud slide. Poor chap was worried. Told him to take a local jeep and consider towing the car.
Day 4:
Left Naran at 9:15am and reached Balakot at 11:30am. Tea break at PTDC. Left Balakot at around 12:15pm and reached Abbotabad at 1:45pm. After Abbotabad, it was a mess. Moving rush but loads of traffic on that small road with 12 and 16 wheelers. Reached Isloo at 5pm.
Advise:
Avoid going in a car during off season specially with recent rains. I met FWO people at Naran and according to them, road conditions would be easier for cars after Mid May once Naran will get abundant sunshine for 1-2 weeks. Avoid asking hotel staff about road conditions as most of the private hotel staff are from Abbotabad or Punjab and for them, it does'nt matter if your car from underneath. To be honest, when i didn't own a 4x4, i always used to take a local jeep from Balakot as it has multiple uses, first, it saves you from a lot of tension. Secondly, you can actually enjoy the route. Thirdly, locals will have a chance to earn money and last, my kids used to love sitting in a local jeep
