Hi guys,
I have a Honda City GM 2010. I am currently using Castrol GTX having rating SAE 20W-50 and the car is purely running on Petrol.Recently i discovered that the oil being offered by Honda has a rating of SL 10W-30. This oil has less viscosity as compared to my current castrol GTX. The guys at Honda claim that Castrol GTX is too thick and is not appropriate for the vehicle. Further i asked them if i should shift back to the Honda oil and he said that shifting back to the recommended oil is also not recommended whereas there are many sites on the internet that say that you should use higher viscosity oils in summer and lower viscosity oils in winter. So now iam at a point where i need to purchase oil for my car and iam totally confused. Let me add that the current oil iam using gives me superior averages and outstanding performance. I have been using it for the last 1.5 year on four different cars and i have no problem on any of them. Please assist me guys. Expert opinion will be highly appreciated.
Thanks
Switch to the oil you want too the oil should be good, you are running it on Petrol not on a bomb.
Also: before switching to the new oil get a small flush to the engine, I sure the engine is 100% the same that you got on day one of purchase. --- Good Luck
in Pakistan summers you need the extra viscosity - and if its allowed in the owners manual you are good.
use currently which u r using otherwise start using mobile 1
I just contacted a good mechanic and he says that Castrol GTX should not be run for 5000km. This oil is only good for 3000km.
The oil given by Honda can be run for 5000km without any side effects.
I always do not run the oil more than 2000 km ---- even Shell HX7 or Petromens.
I do this because the level of dusty road is high as compared to other cities, for this even the very good oil will fall on it knees before its time.
u should use castrol magnetec or zic xq
do u dream of driving a rotary engine ?or do u love treating ur new car with the "cheapest" oil in the market
20-50 grade is the cheapest and the thickest oneused by old cars which burn oil or people having Rx7 or RX8's
Heres your solution,
liquimoly engine flush - arnd 600rs
mobil1 5w50 - arnd 900rs per litre
drive the mobil for 8-10k kilometres, depending on ur driving condition and dust. Nothing better than mobil1 imo, using in 09 city
