Hello guys - I am returning to Pakistan after 25 years. I'll be residing in Islamabad. Does anyone know what is that customes duty on a Honda shadow (1100cc). Also I would like to bring my Harley Davidson (superglide).

Are there any Harleys in Islamabad?

Just spoke with the Pakistan embassy's rep. To top it off I am only allowed one vehicle and it has to be no more than 2 years old. I'll have to come up with a Plan "B".

You should contact Alta. I am sure he will help you devise your plan "B", "C"...
Do considering budgeting for convenience fees paid to facilitate your plans.

Ahh, love the FatBoy. That's my favourite Harley. I have a collected quite a bit of toys over the years and I would like to keep them all. I am not going to settle for anything less, just because i have to move to Pakistan to take care of my parents.

riz - I like the way you think. I much rather pay the "convenience fees" for my plan B. Thank you for the advise.

On a serious note, do check about transfer of residence and allotted quotas by calling Pakistani Consulate. While you are talking to them, do ask them about your specific situation. They are quite helpful.

Yes contacting the Pakistan Embassy was my first step. I did not like their answer. Well there was nothing wrong with the answer, they were very helpful, but I didn't like the rules and regulations associated with, "Transfer of Residence" and import of motor vehicles. Laws are extremely restrictive. Vehicle import laws are designed to protect Pakistan’s automobile assemblers. One law that’s ridiculous is that, No vehicle more than 2 years old can be imported under any circumstances. Also, one cannot import second hand automobile or aircraft engines. fficeffice" />

It is quite apparent now that your only practical option is to contact a Pakistani customs clearing agent and seek his/her counsel. They are in the loop and know how the convenience fee set up works to accommodate special cases.

TIP !
Get one bike through the normal way and bring the other bike in parts using different separate consignments and get it assembled back here.

Copules of months back a friend imported Harley VROD Muscle he was also very disapointed by the rules & after checking diffrent clearance companies/agents we came to conclusion to get it done through one of the famous Heavy bikes dealer here in Lahore. I will recomend u to do the same other wise it would be very hectic to do it ur self. To be precise duty is ~9 $/CC (engine Capicty) excpet some other taxes like sales/income tax, freight & speed money. & as u say vehicles more than 2/3 years old cant be imported.
The over all cost of that bike till Pakistan was ~3.6 Million PKR.

All of you guys have been great help. Thanks Mr. Imran Bhatti for the information. Alas! my bike is more than 3 years old. I am going to leave all my toys here in the US for the time being. Once I am in pakistan i will find a way. Perhaps bring the bike unassembled.... I want to start a small manufacturing facility for making high end "Choppers" in Pakistan for export. I have made a few really nice choppers over the years. They call me the tool man. Working on cars and bikes is my hobby. Flying airliners is my job.

On another note, I have two aircraft that I will bring eventualy. I made a good living, but at the end, "mother and motherland are better than paradise".

See ya all in Islamabad. Till then, take care and God Bless.
