Default importing left hand drive cars to Pakistan from US

I need to ask this question to this forum. Are there any restrictions to importing left hand drive cars to Pakistan? Because in Pakistan the drive system is right-hand (driver sists on the right side) but here in US its left hand (driver sits on the left side). Will it affect duty or registration? Will it be safe to drive it in Pakistan? thanks.

No restriction or any difference in duties at all. Safe to drive as long as you are a good driver, a bad driver could crash a RHD here as well and they do.

Only difference is in resale. You won't find a buyer for LHD vehicle in Pakistan.

Thanks whatcarman. That means it is legal to drive LHD cars in Pakistan? I thought may be some rules restrict it. I am also little conerned whether a LHD driver feel it difficult to drive there. What is your opinion? You made a good point that LHD cars may not have good buyers or resale value in Pakistan.

Well usually LHD vehicle drivers in Pakistan have trouble on congested roads and lot of other drivers beep them and get annoyed by their lack of keeping vehicle in the lane. But still there are quite a few LHD vehicles in Pakistan.

As for as legality is concerned, legally there is no difference between LHD and RHD vehicles.

thanks again. What is your opinion about US made cars? Do they have good reputation there? What engine size should be enough to get someone going from city to city, eg Karachi to Islamabad, in Pakistan? Also can a CNG system be installed in all types of cars? Which one should be best there an autmatic or a manual?

US made cars are to be found here hardly. Toyota Landcruiser which is manufactured as Lexus LX470 in USA is popular. Engine size 4200cc diesel would be excellent to cruise on Pak roads.

Hummer H1 has also been seen in Lahore and Islamabad but main problem with US cars is that they are LHD, and due to not having dealership here, spare parts and servicing are problems with US brands.

CNG system can be installed in almost all petrol cars easily, however, diesel engines are a bit difficult to convert as their kit is more expensive than petrol engines. Other thing is price of diesel, which is almost half of petrol, so not too many people are interested to convert a diesel engine to CNG.
