    Default Civic 2010 / Corolla 2010 - a buyers perspective

    Like many of my fellow PW members i too have to decide between the Civic(base model) and Corolla(Gli).
    Logical points would help me decide. Clearly mention why you would recommend either of them.

    There are probably many others threads buried, but i haven't been able to find any through the Search Engine of Pakwheels. post their links if there are other threads.

    @agreed wid Abdullah, Civics base model has to compared with Altises base model. Gli falled in the EXi category.
    Get over the fact that Xli lacks power windows, Its an Xli because it lacks thoose features or else it would be a Gli or an Altis if had all the goodies.

    @all
    how about the maintainence? is a civic more expensive to maintain than a corolla.
    ive herd rumors that the civic suspension is soft and will wear out much faster,any truth in this?
    over all which has a better build quality?

    @internal_auditor
    this is a pro forum, be careful.

    @abdullah1
    you are saying the civic is better, but why? support your argument with a reason please.

    @chinyoti
    i dont think there is an Exi in the new model civic.

    @aydee47
    agreed about the depreciation, a civic definitely depreciates more than a corolla. But i am not planning to sell it in a short time.

    Sorry to say but sir what are you talking about i have corolla 2009 but how can u compare a 1800cc car with 1300cc car ........ what facts do u need bhaiii 135 plus horse power vs less than 90 hourse power car ................civic is a very nice car and as already mentioned you can may be compare altis base line model with civic but not with a gli .........as far as maintaince is concerned corolla and civic if driven properly need same kind of maintenance ....and this is also myth that corolla has better resale ......compare 1600cc corolla and 1600 cc civic resale ...cars with bigger engines (expensive cars) loose more money irrespective of fact wheather they are civic corolla or suzuki ..........soft suspension means more comfort also (if they wear out early) ...... i would say if you have money buy civic cause this comparison is basically not possible........compare Gli with city

    @optimum, tabi i said it falled, , secondly Civics drives way better then a rollas due the diffrnce of engine size and because Civic having a independent rear suspension.

    thirdly the 08 Gli we had i didnt feel its sterring getting any heavier while driving it at 160 (gawadar coastal highway) while Civics steering gets heavier wid speed (atleast it does in the *(01-06 models) that gives you more control on the car at high speeds.

    if it was between a brand new Gli and a used Vti. for me i wud go for a Civic *(sporty, stylish, interiors realy awsum) for my dad i wud prefer a brand new as his cars running is to much and he needs a trouble free car for atleast 3 to 5 years.

    @chinyoti:these days with the ivtec city.
    @optimum:Well civic has a more comfy ride, sportier car, better acceleration dynamics and feel.
    I keep corollas because i like the durability, the rigidness, and i don't mind passing through few feets if water.nice to rev on cng, better resale and easier maintenance. however this is for 1.3 category, wen it cmz to 1.8 id alwaz say civic is better.
    the speedometer is fun, the front looks dash etc etc.
    rest search the forums and if u cant make a decision buy an accord or a premio

    @abdula, didnt get u actualy, but if ure comparing a City to Rolla, so i wont realy do that either. ive said it before saying it again City to Liana is enuff, corolla GLi is a lower end trim of the altis, i.e its a biger sedan, a clas a part. noe dont say city has more leg space and bla bla, city doesnt compete to corola is a clear example city was launched priced more then Xli only a few months later they decreased the price

    i think ..if some 1 needs a resale value...tou rolla is best..but if you dont care about resale..all u like is the comfort and drive then CIVIC is the only option

    @chinyoti:agree with all u said...as for leg room go read what ive written in the past.i only said n the engine dept.
    rest corolla and city are two dffrnt segment cars.
    if one wants resale only the 1.3corolla has it not the 1.8 or the 2.0diesel/s

    comparison is definetly interesting, and quite sparkling with all the civic and rolla fans jumping in
    bt in the end what matters is ur own pleasure and comfort.. so drive both, and then park them both together... look at what appeals u more... thts gonna b the car for u...

    Salam all

    Everyone is right yet its the opinion that matters

    I wanted to buy a brand new car in early 2007.
    I liked Civic ............. but I bought Gli ...... brand new
    In 2008 beginning, my Gli had 35K mileage on it ....... I sold it and lost 50K .... (which is only the registration cost)
    I wanted to buy a brand new car again in 2008 may
    I liked Civic ............. but I bought Gli 2008 ...... brand new
    In september 2009, my second Gli had 55K milage on it ..... I sold it and lost 60K ..... (which is again the registration plus some extra thousands)
    In November 2009 ......... I went straight to Aftab Motors Pindi and bought a Gun Metallic Gli ........

    Conclusion: I cannot keep a car for more than a year old ..... and as per new tech rules ...... why not have the latest ..... BUT If I had gone for Civic at the first time ..... I wud see myself sticking with Civic all this time and plus Pindi ... Peshawar .... Muree .... Lahore ...... Kohat .... Abbottabad ..... all these routes Gli rides like an offroad bike .... no need to slow down at small bumps and slight ditches ...... BUT Civic is like a sports bike ...... faster, cool to drive, powerful ..... BUT .... when it comes to bad road (Masha'Allah in Pakistan we had them all over) u have to slow down and take care of suspension.

    I still like Civic and wont mind driving it BUT only on rental basis, to keep a car for myself, I prefer Corolla Gli

    Sorry for those who found this information useless.

    @unaware
    What a bloody true story!!! I fully agree with the concept and moral of this story!
    I have been thinking for over 2 months before I decided between GLI and Civic Oriel. All pros and cons were kept in mind, and 'Resale value' was also one of them!
    But, this story has a different end!! I went for 'today' not 'tomorrow'!! If I ride in a good, comfortable, great looking, luxury car today, why worry for tomorrow if it will return me my money or not!!? When I need to change it in future, I would have enjoyed a hell lot more by than!!
    So, in the end, I went for Civic Oriel Silver!!!! And it really feels good!

    I am a corolla owner(2006 Xli).

    i have driven the 2009 corolla Xli model its better then the older one but there are few down sides to it. Most of all its that still the drive is not that indulging and interesting i would rather add its boring. I drove the New city and i totally fell in love with it. its drive is really amazing...
    well this was pretty use less talk so lets go to civic.

    well if you owned and maintained a Bmw 3 series i dont think it will be a problem for you to maintain a civic.

    other thing is that if you will get all the work done from a Authorized dealer then civic or corolla's maintainability is not that much of different. i guess civic will cost you 2000 more then corolla(my guess).

    People who say corolla is cheap to maintain then i think they dont use genuine parts and get most of the work done from road side mechanics and workshops.
    my corolla's oil change air filter etc gets changed for Rs.5500 for an authorizer dealer.
    at 20,000km check up cost was Rs.10,000. then at 40,000Km the check up cost was 21,000(included all the lequid changes brake pads throttle body service etc).

    Coming towards the Civic.

    If i had option of choosing between a civic and Gli i would certainly choose a CIVIC
    Note i am NO civic fan BOY(i guess you have seen a few around here).

    the drive of the civic is at another level cannot be compared with Gli.
    only down side i see to the civic is that is seats are kind of hard..
    My thing is that GO FOR A CIVIC hands down.
    - IF it is costing you more then corolla its totally worth it.

    Its true that u cant compare a 1.3 corolla to a 1.8 civic, better to compare with the 1.8 altis.
    The new corolla has a more smooth and comfortable ride. The power steering is much softer and has better shocks. It has a heavier engine design (DOHC) with slightly better fuel consumption. It has more ground clearance and less road grip.

    The civic has a lighter engine design (SOHC) and less ground clearance with gives a better road grip. Of course the civic also has a more stylish interior and shape.

    The base version of the altis comes with a few extra features as compared to the base version of the civic: keyless entry, drivers seat airbags and alloy rims.

    If u want style and a little more sportier drive then go for the civic but if u prefer a little more comfort and smoothness, go for the corolla.
    I drive tested both and prefered to buy the corolla.

    Does anyone care that for the same price Altis does not have a paseenger side air bag? To me it is quite important because I usually use a driver. I do want to protect my driver but would also like to live in case of an acciedent also. Why do you guys think Rola does not provide the option for Passenger side air bag on Altis? Civic does.

    my answer: CIVIC
    Reasons
    1. Modern Technology [Pak Civic has same engine as US or JPN civic, Corolla comes with dual vvti in most places]
    2. I like the Shape & the digital odo.
    3. Safety [Dual Airbags not present in any other local car ! Altis has only driver side airbag, if you search Pakwheels, recently a crashed altis was posted whose airbag did not deploy ! Till yet I have not come across a Civic whose airbag did not deploy].

    If you compare GLi with a Civic they fall in a different category and Civic has much more features and a more powerful engine so its better by leaps and bounds. Over an altis, I would still opt for Civic.

    FOR ALL PEOPLE WHO OBJECT TO THESE REASONS : this is my personal view, post your own views, do not start criticizing the reasons I have given.
