Default (o\_!_/o) - Volkswagen Club of Pakistan (VWCOP)

Lets all contribute pics and memories to this timeless classic that has faithfully served generations. It is my 1st car memory and my dad who is a Beetle enthusiast at one time had a total of 4 beetles in our garage Here's a little history of this miraculous German wonder: 'The history of the Beetle really goes back to pre 2nd world war Germany when Ferdinand Porsche had a vision of a mass produced vehicle that was affordable to the average German, an idea that was shared with the young Adolf Hitler who himself could not drive, but was a car fanatic. Hitler was apparently influenced by the achievements of Henry Ford and his production lines - reading Ford's biography while in prison during 1923. Porsche had previously worked on some other small cars that used many elements later to be included in the Beetle. The Type 32 prototype NSU of 1934 was an air-cooled rear engined four cylinder horizontally opposed powered car that used torsion bar suspension and featured beetle-like styling.' --- source - Google.co.uk lets keep the posts rolling - add pics of bugs you've owned or own! I'll add my dad's bug family pics as well ... I guess he fell in love with this oddly shaped car after he drove it down to Pakistan from Germany!!!! .. stories of that wonderous journey keep us entertained whenever our family gets together

@spidey
your skills as excellent buddy (Y),.. was great meeting you on sunday as well.

@all
while researching some issues with the exhaust of the Type 1 engine i came accross this: http://www.evansair.com/

ALSO anyone who want's a more efficient method of cooling (and more power) for their type 1 & type 4 engine might want to take a look at this:

http://www.aircooledtechnology.com/type1/dtm/index.htm

it has so far out performed the stock unit AND the porsche style one as well,... all i can say is WOW!!!

Quite some time ago I did set out to make hard copies of the various popular manuals so VW owners could benefit. There is an old thread too somewhere in the dusty, cobwebbed archives here whereby I was trying to estimate the number of copies to be made for each manual.

I never got around to actually making the copies since I had estimated that an input of around 10k rupees would be required as I would make at least ten copies of each manual in one go (books do get damaged when handled by these photocopy wallas!)

Maybe sometime in the near future people would bamboozle me enough so I get around to revive this 'project' put in cold storage!

[/quote]

Wow! Dat list of books got me drooling all over! Some relatives are coming to Pak this december so maybe i'll ask them to bring a few books. which ones would you recommend? 1, 3 and 11? can you provide the isbn numbers for these?

@fadee
thanks, i'm always looking for new tech for these cars, consider it R&D,... personally think the fan shrouds are amazing but i STILL would prefer to haev the old (tried and tested) porsche style cooling fan/shroud.

lets see how well this one performs in the long run,... i really need to upgrade the cooling of my car, specially since i'm running an early housing with a large fan on a 74 which should have a doghouse cooler/shroud.

still, my car has 0 heatup issues, but even then, it helps to run it even cooler.

@mariner2090
that is terrible! how'd they fail? air in the lines? failed lines? failed master cylinder? damage to the brakes?

luckily these cars are easily fixed and hopefully we'll be seeing your car up and running as good as new again soon. at least it shows that these old cars are still very strong. I hope you are ok after the accident?

i'd suggest you try and get your mechanic to change the rubber seals in your master cylinder if possible.

it's possible that a leak in the system cased the failure.

my suggestion is to please give sadqa

@all
this is why i'm concentrating on handling and braking before i upgrade the performance of my 1303. people tend to overlook braking when modifying cars.

@romano
it's likely that the later model dual circuit system was replaced some time in the cars life.

did you see the video i posted above? watch the end of video 7 carefully

Salman,
any suggestions for next Sunday? Let us know whats on your mind, in fact, why not 'lead' the program? Give us a few suggestions to shortlist. Nothing too far please; an hours drive at most :-)
