Lets all contribute pics and memories to this timeless classic that has faithfully served generations. It is my 1st car memory and my dad who is a Beetle enthusiast at one time had a total of 4 beetles in our garage Here's a little history of this miraculous German wonder: 'The history of the Beetle really goes back to pre 2nd world war Germany when Ferdinand Porsche had a vision of a mass produced vehicle that was affordable to the average German, an idea that was shared with the young Adolf Hitler who himself could not drive, but was a car fanatic. Hitler was apparently influenced by the achievements of Henry Ford and his production lines - reading Ford's biography while in prison during 1923. Porsche had previously worked on some other small cars that used many elements later to be included in the Beetle. The bus may be a find but ultimately one has to weigh the pros of undertaking such a project. I don't find it too desirable a project to go down that avenue. There are still several buses in far better condition waiting to be restored.

Seek and thou shall find!!!

I suggest you look outside Rawalpindi islamabad. Places like sargodah or Mianwali. At one time, T-2's were provided as ambulances to almost all Basic Health Units all over the country. While most have been auctioned away but I am sure there are some still parked in a shed and forgotten. Try find an 'uncle' in the health department who can help you locate one parked for decades in the boonies. If you wish to buy one that has been 'discovered' already, you should be prepared to dish out big bucks.
You can also try and source one across the border in Afghanistan. There are many still available in good restorable condition. I know someone who went down that route but was unfortunately conned big time. I am sure if you have your head screwed on right you would take proper precautions before reaching for your wallet.

There is a Bay Window for sale at one of the showrooms on Murree road... Looks to be in decent restorable condition... You should check that out...

Thats a really nice car with GT wheels but a bit too much chrome for my liking...

Am quite worried at the trend here; one member says he didn't 'bother' going to check on a flatbed, because in his words "i wasnt interested in it"; the second comment, in Urdu, (can we pls stick to ONE language?) says they cut up a car because they lost the papers!! I mean, how stupid is that? These are very same people who are always going on about how they are on a Raider of the Lost Ark (VW) quest to find God knows Beetle prototype 001. Guys, get real, as long as you are going to focus purely on YOUR quest, its NOT going to happen! We have a limited number of VWs out there, find them, photograph them , help rescue them.
This selfish Me, Myself, and I attitude is not going to be work. While you are out there blinkered in yr quest for yr dream Beetle, many others in full view are getting cut up. If you dont go check the lead/rumour out, a kabarai will get it first. We have in our midst a very dedicated selfless young man who raised the alarm on Fiat van parked at the scrapyard. We rescued it, and just in time. Time everyone did the same.

BTW... I am going after the Type 2 flat bed to confirm the myth as no one has seen it and it has only been talked about on the fone by the informant... Lets hope there really is a T2 Flatbed in that place and may God give it Split Windows as well before i reach there...
