GTR stands for Gran Turismo Racing.

It's not 'like the difference between a lancer and an evo'. The latest model is called Nissan GTR. Previously nissan's racing line was the Nissan Skyline Gtr which then evolved into the Nissan GTR R35..So basically the difference is pretty much the model year you could say.
