wrong catagory/class, the mark X is based on the "lexus IS" which is a 3 series competitor.

there's no comparison even between a 3 series and a mark x. BMW is way ahead of Toyota. The only good thing about lexus is that you get a lot of options for a low price.

Even though I detest Toyota/Lexus, Ill admit the Mark X is good value for money (@ $27k in Japan).

But comparing this with a $50k (base price) BMW is baseless..and @Cylestyne and @Storm are both very right (Y)

thats actually quite a huge claim.. Would you kindly substantiate it and provide a bit further details as to how and in what terms BMW is "way" ahead of Toyota (includes lexus too)?

Lexus is a competitor of BMW, Mercedes and Audi. And it also has the best reliability and quality rankings in USA (everybody knows it). Rest the statement giver will tell you why is way ahead.

@internal
Pardon me for interrupting, but know that what @Cylestyne meant was that BMW is specifically way ahead of Toyota/Lexus in performance. Which is a fact.

And quality rankings, well I hope you know that the Lexus GS model has just recently been termed "dangerous" and "below-average" in quality rankings, even though the GS is a mid-level Lexus targeted to compete with 5 series, E class, Infiniti M & Audi A6.

@TrueEye

Drive both and you'll see. I can't give you anything more "substantial" than that.

@internal, Please take the liberty of driving all 3 cars that have been mentioned in the topic. Mark-X, 3 series and 5 series. Mark-X feels like a nice unclish car fairly responsive and speedy. To me it feels/looks like a glorified RWD Camry.

On the other hand, the 3 and 5 series are exhilirating to drive, handle like they're on rails. The build quality is far superior and much more premium than the poor plasticy Mark-X. Infact compare it to all Lexus models like LS, GS, IS, ES (I'm talking about Lexus badge cars not Toyotas)-- BMW build quality feels far more premium.

Now please don't try to make a comback by saying "Toyota is the worlds #1" automaker. That is pointless; what sells most is not whats the best.

When you have hands on experience with the cars, let me know I'll reopen a discussion with you

Toyota will launch a safety recall in late January (2009) involving about 214,500 Lexus vehicles sold in the U.S. to replace faulty fuel-delivery pipes with new components.

The recall involves 2006-'08 Lexus GS 300/350, Lexus IS 250/350 and Lexus LS 460/460L models.

In a statement, the upscale Toyota brand said that "some ethanol fuels with a low moisture content may corrode the internal surface of the fuel-delivery pipes. If this condition occurs, the malfunction indicator light in the combination meter may illuminate. Over time, the corrosion may create a pinhole in the fuel-delivery pipes, resulting in fuel leakage."

The fuel-delivery pipes will be replaced with newly designed components.
