Mitsubishi Lancer is a good looking sedan produced by Japanese Automaker, Mitsubishi since 1973. The ninth generation is termed as Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. Pretty sure majority of the people know what an Evolution is, even if not by specifications but at least by name.
Mitsubishi Lancer is present in the Pakistani market since early 90’s and has been trying to increase its market share. The vehicle has not done very well Pakistan as people think they have got better options and then comes a typical mindset of “Resale Value.”
There are three trims available in the market. One can find a lancer with a 1300cc, 1500cc and 1600cc engine. However in the international market, the vehicle is present in 1800cc, 2000cc, and turbo versions as well. Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution comes with a stock 2.0L 4G63T I4 turbocharged engine however there are a couple of swaps seen with a 2JZ metal block.
Although there are no latest models found in Pakistan, used Mitsubishi Lancer of a decade old is going to stand around PKR 7 Lacs. The new Lancer is going to cost around PKR 25 Lacs but unfortunately the vehicle is not present in Pakistan due to many factors.
Currently available variants are:
Mitsubishi Lancer GL
Mitsubishi Lancer GLX 1.5
Mitsubishi Lancer GLX 1.3
Mitsubishi Lancer GLX Automatic 1.3
Mitsubishi Lancer GLX Automatic 1.6
Mitsubishi Lancer GLX SR Automatic 1.6
Toyota Corolla and Honda City are direct competitors of Mitsubishi Lancer in Pakistan, but there is no doubt that the opponents have played their part well in wiping off Lancer. Corolla is a favorite vehicle in Sindh and Baluchistan. On the other hand, Honda city has done amazingly well in Punjab. Although it can be safely said that Mitsubishi Lancer is a pleasant vehicle regarding safety, drive, and comfort but people of Pakistan are not very comfortable with cars that have poor resale value and expensive to maintain. These reasons account to the fall of Mitsubishi Lancer.
No one can deny that the resale value of Lancer is terrible, you’ll have to wait for months and months if you have posted your car for sale as there are no owners available in the market. The competition for Lancer is very high in the market which makes it impossible for the vehicle to make its position firm.
The popular model of Lancer in the Pakistani market is the 2002 and onwards. This particular model did pretty well compared to other models of Lancer; the vehicle has good comfort along with pleasurable drive.
