18 Killed in Bus Fire Near Nooriabad in Sindh

At least 18 people killed today after a bus caught fire on the motorway near Jamshoro’s Nooriabad Town, Sindh. The videos on social media show the bus engulfed in a massive ball of fire.

Deputy Commissioner Jamshoro confirmed that the number of fatalities rose to 16 earlier today. However, two more passengers succumbed to burn injuries. Eight children and nine women are among the deceased.

DHO Jamshoro told media that the bodies of have been shifted to Edhi morgue at Sohrab Goth. “Some bodies are beyond recognition but the members of the bereaved families are unwilling for the DNA test,” he said.

The bus was heading towards Karachi from Khairpur Nathan Shah, boarding 80 flood-affected people. The deceased belonged to Mugheri tribe.

The motorway police stated that the a fire broke out in the air-conditioning unit of the passenger bus near Nooriabad. “The fire may have been caused by a short circuit in the air conditioner,” the officials said.

After the bus caught fire, most of the passengers were already offloaded, however, several couldn’t escaped the fire. Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has taken the notice of the incident and ordered the relevant authorities to visit the site with ambulance and rescue teams.

Shah has also summoned an investigation report of the incident. The provincial government has vowed to find the reasons behind the fire and whose negligence caused loss of lives.
