Kia’s Upcoming all-electric Crossover “EV5” | Expected Price and International Specs
Ahsan Tahir
Just a few hours ago, Kia Pakistan posted an Instagram post with a teaser of their upcoming car. The teaser seems to be EV5, Kia’s all-electric mid-size SUV that looks like a car used in sci-fi movies like in Terminator and MEGAN.
Post shared on KIA Pakistan’s Instagram.
Again, just FYI, this is a Kia EV5 in the picture.
Kia EV5 Overview
At first glance, this EV looks like it came straight out of the game Cyberpunk2077 or the movie Blade Runner 2049 because its exterior, with its angular cuts, flashy-looking LEDs, boxy shape aggressive stylings, and Trasnformers-style rims, is exactly how you define a futuristic modern EV car.
One thing we can say for sure is if you drive it on the streets of Pakistan, it’s sure to turn heads. It’s because, on the roads where there are average cars like Corolla, Alto, Cultus, City, and WagonR, this futuristic ride will stand out like a time traveler’s car from 2050.
Sitting inside, it’s all premium to touch feel, but it’s mainly plastic on the doors, which we think is not good for a car that will cost 1.5 crore PKR. Other than that, it’s good and sof to touch premium material all over the dashboard and seats.
And just like any other modern EV, you will also notice two gigantic screens that look more like portable cinemas that play Netflix and YouTubein nice 4Kresolution.
The seats are also nice and made of PU leather + all those premium things like heating and electric adjustments, but we don’t know exactly why the seats extend to the center console. You can’t make a kid sit there, nor can it work as a center console; don’t know its purpose. Hopefully, Kia Pakistan will replace it with a center console in the PKDM variant.
One good thing is that the touch buttons and even the screen use the same iPhone-like haptics that let you know when you’ve hit the icon you were aiming for during the drive, so you don’t need to take your eyes off the road.
Kia EV5 Worldwide and Pakistan Launch
So far, this car has only been launched in China. Although it is not yet available for sale in the U.S. or Australian markets, internet reviewers say that that it may be launched in Australia by the end of 2024
Pakistan will also soon get this vehicle, maybe in early 2025 or December 2024, but December might be too early; our projected launch date for this EV5 in the Pakistani market is the start of 2025.
Internationally, the EV5 is priced starting at 1.3 crore PKR in the USA. After factoring in customs duties, taxes, FBR duties, and other related costs, its price in Pakistan could rise to 2 crore PKR or more. If Lucky Motors introduces this vehicle in this 2 crore price range, we can smell its huge flop in the local market.
However, we think Lucky Motors will introduce the CKD variant with heavy cost-cutting to keep the price under 1.3-1.5 crore PKR. And so, this model will target elite segment buyers looking for a brand new C-segment EV crossover.

Conclusion
In our opinion, if Kia manages to launch this EV5 for under 1.5 crore and doesn’t remove essential features like airbags and radar sensors, it can be a great option for people who are looking for an EV under the 1.5 crore budget. It’s because, currently no brand is offering an all-electric crossover EV under the 1.5 crore budget. Kia’s EV5 will be the trendsetter, we think, but only if it’s launched under a 1.5 cr budget; above that can be a huge flop.
