Toyota Plans a “Multi-Energy” Yaris For a Changing Market

Toyota is preparing a completely new, fifth-generation Yaris that could arrive in late 2027 or 2028, and it plans to sell it with petrol, hybrid, and fully electric powertrains under one nameplate.

Auto Express reports that Toyota wants to give buyers a choice without pushing loyal hybrid customers aside as EV demand grows.

One Platform, One Look, Different Powertrains

Toyota’s strategy hinges on a new small-car platform that can support internal-combustion engines, hybrid systems, and battery-electric hardware.

The company already plans a similar approach for the next Corolla, with shared styling, tech, and branding regardless of powertrain or market, and the next Yaris should mirror that playbook.

Range And Efficiency Targets Raise The Bar

Auto Express reports say an electric Yaris will likely need around 250 miles of range to compete with upcoming rivals.

At the same time, Toyota will need to match or beat the current Yaris hybrid’s near-80mpg efficiency, so the new car must improve without getting heavier or pricier.

Sharper Design And a Nod to GR Attitude

Preview images suggest a more technical, futuristic look with sharper lines, new-style headlights, and a cleaner lower grille, plus a “diving” windowline aimed at better visibility and a roomier feel.

Toyota may also push bolder colours, trims, and GR Sport appeal, while the next GR Yaris remains unconfirmed.

Key Takeaway

Toyota could reinvent the Yaris in Europe as a “one car, multiple powertrains” model, offering petrol, hybrid, and possibly an EV, with wider global plans likely tied to how well it sells there.

For Pakistan, the hybrid version would make the most sense first, given high fuel costs and limited charging infrastructure outside major cities.

An electric Yaris may still attract urban buyers later, but pricing, import duties, and dependable after-sales support will shape demand.
